I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to how much sick days play a part on rehiring for next year. I am a first year teacher and my district allows 10 sick days per year. I have taken 6 and was legitimately very ill when I took these days. Is there a chance that this could affect me being rehired for next year?

10 a year? Thank God we have 25:) I don't think it would play a big role as long as it didn't hinder your job performance.

25!!!!!!!!!!!!! We get 10 as well and can bank up to 70 I think it is. They shouldn't play any part in your being rehired since they are there in your contract for a reason.

20 for us, carried over forever...I can't see how they should affect your rehire.

Thank you for making me feel better. I hope you are all right. The one good thing about my district is that you can bank an unlimited number of days, but by the way i keep getting sick i can't see that happening for me.:)

The first year everyone gets sick... you need time to build up your immunities from all the germs the kids are spreading. Next year will undoubtably be better :)

We have thirty and up to one years paid leave. It shouldn't matter, if you only used 6.

You have it nice there, most districts will only give you 10 days.

You have those days for a reason. Some that used one day as opposed to you using 6 is irrelevant. I used 9 of my 10 already and only once was it for me, the rest was my kids. If you never left sub work or somewhat prepared, even if it was a last second emergency, then the administration would have an issue.
