Regarding public school districts in California, do sick days transfer from one district to the next? I heard that this depends on the individual school/district. If it "depends", then why does state retirement include early options by using sick days (when some sites transfer your sick days and others do not)? Thanks! :thanks:
I am not sure if it's for all districts, but I was able to transfer my days district to district and I switched from classified to certificated.
Mine do, but other teachers have had different experiences. Why would this be the case when retirement is state wide? And early retirement happens with sick day accumulation.
I really think you can because they're connected to STRS, as bdd mentioned. I am transferring from charter school to another charter school (both in STRS) and I get to keep my sick days.
It appears as though the employer does not have to transfer over sick leave, but CalSTRS will still give you credit for it upon retirement. "CalSTRS will accept unused sick leave reported by each employer during the last school year in which you performed creditable service, provided this leave was not transferred to another employer." http://www.calstrs.com/post/converting-unused-sick-leave-service-credit
I was able to take my days with me. HR did that as part of the hiring process when confirming employment with the previous district.
