Timer? I am completely new to all of this so please excuse me if I have made a mistake. Gopher, I noticed that you have a large wall mounted timer on your front board. (from looking at your classroom photos posted in July) Where did you get that? I would love to have something similar for labs etc. Thanks!
I found it at our teacher supply store. It's called "The Big Timer". I don't know the name of the company. Sorry.
I am finally done. Thanks to many ideas I received from this site- I am really happy about my room this year. Enjoy.. http://teacherweb.com/PA/PolkElementary/MrsSaylor/ Take the classroom tour!!
THANK YOU!!! My kiddos and I love our tree too!!! It's fun! Sort of funny too...there is a little boy in my class that has been REALLY UNEASY about coming to school...his mother said he has cried every night for a week not wanting to come back to school...well we had "Meet the Teacher" night last Friday and he came in and looked around...and I will never forget him standing in the middle of the room shaking his head up and down with his hands on his hips while tapping his right foot saying..."Mom...this rooms is GREAT...I think this is going to be a "REAL NICE" place to be!" This morning was our first day of school...and his mom said he was up at 4:30 ready to come to school! In a district that is soooooooo socioeconomically disadvantaged, we all try to create rooms that are more like being at home...warm and inviting yet conducive to learning...because the sad reality is that it's as close to having a "HOME" as some of our babies have. THANKS AGAIN for the compliment on my tree...we sure enjoy it!
I don't know if you were referring to me or not, but I am an Amy from Texas. I teach in the panhandle (Amarillo, to be exact.) How about you?

The writing process poster came from MRs. Smith's 3rd grade website. I was going to give you the link but it is not working anymore. I will look at school and see if I have it saved and could send it to you.
The editing and revising checklist- another teacher and I came up with those. When student's get to the revising process we put down "keys to good revising" that they should follow and we did the same for editing. They go back to the bulletin board and grab the checklist for their step and follow the keys listed.
I love the white wall effect myself. (ours are textured) To me everything looks crisp. We actually have burnt orange trim, and doors. I have no windows, we are in the lower level of our church. It's on the 'National Historical Registry' , so we've had to be very careful in all of the remodeling that we have done. We've lowered the ceilings, added carpet (blue) and painted the concrete floor in the main entry area a blue-gray and added sparkles. I've been very reluctant to put anything on the walls and doors... haha!! But we have white boards in every room. 4x8 and in the main area there are 4x4 BB on each end of the white board. Since our church was responsible for the remodeling we have had to do things in phases. Now that the children's ministry is growing, we have in mind to do some decorating. The idea of a tree in the corner is my biggest endeavor right now. I'm thinking of pvc pipe for the base, and trying to figure out what to use for branches. ( the kids will make the leaves themselves with their names and family member names) I want it to be at the base about 5 ft tall, and then have branch span of 4-5 feet. If you have any ideas on the branch making, I sure would appreciate the ideas. (flexible light weight pipe??) :help: Sorry, so long, but thought it would explain
I hate to bother people too much, but I'm starting my first year in fifth, after having taught kinder, and I love to get new and fresh ideas on how to teach writing. So, if you have any thing that's on your computer that you could email me, I would be SOOOOOOO happy!!!! I figure, it never hurts to ask, right? I have a website with some stuff in my teacher's file cabinet webpage that you might be able to use. http://www.aesd.edu/to/nutting/
I, too, am starting my first year in 5th grade. I am coming from Pre-K and have never taught above 1st. I could also use all the help I could get. I love looking at all the wonderful websites and getting ideas. There just aren't near as many as there were for early childhood. If it weren't for all of you, I would be totally alone. I am the only 5th grade teacher at my school and I don't share my planning time with anyone. You're advice has been a Godsend. If any of you are willing to share, I would also be grateful.
When I get my own classroom, I'm having one of yall come organize it for me....I'm not good at organizing (just ask my sister!!) All of the rooms look amazzzzzzing.
LOL! I was curious about the bunny so I went and did some investigating and, it's true!! Just a big, cute, adorable, sweet, luscious white wabbit!!! LOL:lol:

I finally have some pics...I was without a comouter for 3 weeks!!! It's so nice to be back!! Click on each picture for a larger view. [/IMG]
Very nice, tiggerteacher. How many kids will you have at a time? I love your room, too, MissNikki. TXTCHR, I couldn't get your pictures to enlarge, but I think I saw them on another thread already. Very nice job.
Classroom Set Up I have *just* posted pictures of my new second grade classroom. We have been in school for three weeks (starting on the fourth this upcoming week!). I am loving it!! http://www.mandygregory.com/Setting...* NEW* Second Grade Classroom as of June 2007
Yes, yes, that's coming. I need to upload them into Rockstar now. But isn't my bunny oh so cute!
Finally functional! Everyone's room looks amazing!!! This site is sooooo helpful, for both the novice and the veteran teacher. Today was the first day for students in my district. I finally remembered to take my camera to school. Here are some updated pics of my classroom. I stayed in the same room, but switched from 4th grade to 3rd grade, painted the room, got rid of all fabric bulletin boards per our fire code inspector, rearranged the reading and smartboard areas, and tried to declutter! I'll continue to work on the layout throughout the school year, I'm sure! Let me know what you all think! :thanks: http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=i1zs0tf.b6sn55wv&Uy=nc5pfh&Ux=0
TXTCHR, I have to ask about that amazing easel/shelving/cubby unit you have. Do you know where I can get one?
Thanks SpecialPreskoo! My camera is a Kodak EasyShare Z740. I got it at Sam's Club last summer, and I absolutely loooooove it! It can take alot of really good video, too, depending on what size memory card you have.
Cool! I have the Z650! I have GOT to get my pics of my room taken!! But I'm thinking about re-arranging! LOL Guess I could do now and after the re-arranging.
I see some people have the same kind of pretty plastic tray/bins that hold paper... I got mine at Target several years ago.. and I need some new ones... But I can't find them anywhere. Ideas?
