I love your room!!! I like the way you separate your dry erase board into sections to keep things organized. Also, you have the helper chart that I wanted to get, but changed my mind. :( I wish I would have gotten it now, it looks so nice.

Papayamist: I love your white board that is sectioned off. I am curious as to how you have it sectioned and how you use it. I would like to do that this year!! Your room looks very inviting!!

We have the white boards sectioned off at our school to implement board math and board language. Each section is a standard. So math there is "place value, word problems," etc. Each day we put problems on the board under each section that are problems like they will see on the state test. We make up the questions as a grade level, putting extra attention to questions/concepts the students really struggle with. We put manipulatives on the board such as fraction pieces and rulers.

Then each teacher handles it different with how they have their students answer. At the beginning of the year my students answer on mini white boards they have in their desks and hold up their answers that way. The second part of the year they answer orally which they love too because it gives them a chance to blurt out loud.

It is a quick easy way to assess and see what students need more help on. We usually keep the same questions all week and change the numbers.

For board language we do the same with language arts questions (correcting the sentence, finding the synonym, etc.) but we use their spelling words all week in the sentences so they see them daily and in use.

    sorry, that was long-winded

I'm slowly adding some more pictures. My mom was in with my today and helped out a bunch. I still feel like my walls are bare and I need more color, but I know once school starts, I'll be putting classwork and posters from our Reader's Workshop mini-lessons on the walls. Any suggestions?

Miss Kirby, it looks AMAZING!!!! I knew you'd do it!!! The best part, so far, is the classroom library. I love how the chairs go along with the rug in the area.

Peachyness, my, my... you're FAST!! :woot:

I was going through and clicking on different links and everyone's class looks great. I'm not sure who has this class but the link is http://www.bubbleshare.com/album/204053/overview#7307808

I'm looking for more info on the workshop way. Does anyone have any ideas for tasks when kids finish early?

Hee hee. Thank you. I feel bad though because none of the other teacher's classrooms are close to looking like mine. I had a head start though. I started at 6 whereas many teachers started around 8. I also had another teacher help me.

Peachyness, I know what you mean. We officially didn't start until last Thursday, but I was in last Monday since 5 of the 7 days before kids come in are spent in workshops or whatever else they feel we need. So my room is done, I just need to clean up my file cabinet! Plenty of "I hate you"s from teachers that came to visit and ask about my trip this summer! :)

My kids last year had a real hoot doing the pictures. I did it kinda late in the year, so this year I should get it done much earlier. Its a great way for students to hold themselves more accountable!

HOPEFULLY...I too will have new pictures to post tomorrow...I'm working LONG & HARD to "FINISH" my room tomorrow as we'll be heading to the South Padre for the rest of the week!!! We here in TX start back to school the 20th, Open House the 24th and our kiddos return the 27th. I have FINALLY finished all of my "book bins"...I bought canvas totes and embroidered titles on all of them!!! I'm getting excited...and all I lack tomorrow really is cleaning out my desk, organizing some odds and ends and writing lessons for the first week.

My room is still in progress.... TV on the floor, clock hanging by wires out of the wall..... holes in the ground!! I've got walls I don't know what to do with yet... we'll figure it out! haha.

I'm actually thankful for the white walls. We'll build it together and have more room for student work, which we didn't have much last year.

Thanks! Yes, I'm pretty much done. I would like to put some more things on the walls, but really not sure how much space I should take up since I'll be using a lot of "class created" posters that I am REQUIRED to hang up. I still have some organizing to do and little things that really don't need to be done by the beginning of school. I want to put some science things up, but I don't yet have my curriculum for science and would like to (obviously) put things up that match my first unit at least!

kcontreras - I LOVE your curtains! They make your room look so homey!

I found out today that I can't have anything hanging from the ceilings or above the height of the bulletin boards. That ruins a lot of ideas I had. I've also already switched some things around. So for every step forward, I take a step back.

I posted a thread the other day titled "making progress" and I posted a link there that shows the progression of my room. Here are my pictures from today. I'm just about done with the decorating and plan to tackle some more organizing tomorrow. My room has come a LONG way! Let me know what you think!
