Ms.Jasztal, since we're a WOW school (Working On the Work...WOTW just didn't fit...) I have the kiddies sit at the two long tables when I'm teaching on the board/front of room. Then when it's time for an activity orbookwork, they may move to wherever they please so they have enough room. They actually DO have enough room at the 4-to-a-table setup, but those 5th grader like to complain...

What exactly is a WOW school... is this like title-1? Or something else?

WOW = Working on the Work
It's more of a way of saying less worksheets and bookwork, more groups, projects and hands on activities.

Sometimes you can get Scholastic to send you book posters like that! I used to be the Library Specialist at our school...and I would call our Rep and just ask her for some...she would send them right over...so you might get with your Librarian and see what she can do!

Love your room! Where did you get the white wire rack that is holding your multiple copies of books?

uclalum, Rag Shop was going out of business and they were selling store fixtures. I picked it up (and the drying rack and the crayond sorter at the Art Center) for about $50 total! :)

LOVE the color in your room!!! I LOVE the polka dot stuff and the rug & pillows. I see you have some of "MY stick kids" on the wall in reading. I LOVE those guys and they are my "theme" this year I guess. I have them on everything. What I couldn't buy, I scanned them in my computer & printed them on EVERYTHING else!!! I mean EVERYTHING!!! I also have that lamp, my shade thingys are purple, pink & white though. LOVE the whole thing and your kids are going to feel soooo homey & happy in there!!

I wish I lived closer to Ikea. I WANT that rug! All the $20 rugs around here are just plain and usually ugly colors.

My room.... a work in progress

    Welcome to my classroom.

Here we are a few days later, making some progress.

What a mess! School starts in 7 days!

Now it looks something like a classroom!

My adorable door, printer, and mailboxes.

My word wall and Team Cubbies
    [IMG]

White board and computer/writing center (remember this is all in progress!!).

This tall shelf will be traded for a short shelf when it comes in, so I can have wall space for my writing charts. (right now the top is just storing extra bins, and the bottom holds their Team Totes). Then there is my sink, and shelves back to back with literacy and math manipulatives. Their self portraits will probably go on this wall when they do those on Tuesday. It will be something nice to look at when you walk in the room.

Here is our meeting area. I think the holes in the walls and the clock hanging by wires adds a nice touch.. HA. There is a blank wall next to the carpet on the other side... I'm not sure whats going to be there yet.

Next to our meeting area we have our lovely reading garden. I'm thinking of having the kids write their favorite books on flower die cuts and staple to the BB. It'll add a more personal touch to it!

Our reading tent! With blank wall space behind it which will probably hold some of our reading charts.

My desk area. The hole in the wall will soon mount my TV. I'm going to make a little teacher bulletin board there, once the TV and phone are mounted.

Our writing will go on our BEEutiful Work board on the first day. They'll also keep their backpacks in this area. Hopefully the TV will be gone soon.

Wow Miss Kirby. VERY NICE!!! It looks so clean and orderly. Your new kids are so lucky to have such a nice learning environment.

We are allowed in our rooms on Monday!!!!! I plan to get to school around 6 am. School starts Wednesday so I plan to work non stop Monday and Tuesday to get the class somewhat ready. I'll post some pictures when I get time. Can't wait to see how my room will turn out.

Awww thanks! I'm surprised I did it too. It's still in progress but it has come a long way. My brother came in to help me hang some high stuff, my mom came in to help me with some organization. So that helped out a ton.

The carpet is growing on me. I just hope the kids just don't go crazy when they see it!!!

My mom was trying to get me to take down the bug tent. It takes up a lot of space. I couldn't find a space for a writing center, but once I get rid of that tall bookshelf I don't need it'll work there.

I was worried for you when I saw those first photos! Luckily, it looks like you've had lots of time to prepare and your room shows it.

Have a great year. It looks like a fun and cozy classroom.

Wow, Miss Kirby! You have really worked hard! Your room reminds me a little of mine, we have similar colors - and I have the same striped chairs from Target! I'll put pics of my room up when I get it finished. I'm in the process of re-organizing all my cabinets so it looks worse now than when i started.

That is an interesting choice of carpet. It seems a little busy for school but I like the warm tones.

So I arrived at school today to pick up my class list. I ran to the room to grab some markers. And guess what they decided to PAINT the walls. Now I have to put everything back up again!

GRRR! This happened to me too! I had the custodians help me move the furniture where I wanted it and then the paint crew came a few days later and decided that my room needed to be painted-so now I have to bug the custodians again to help move everything back! I will have to put everything back up on the walls-AUGH!

Ok I have uploaded some of my new classroom pics. Sorry about all the boxes, I am teaching social studies this year and that's all the science stuff from my old classroom. Also, keep in mind at our school we have to have a wall for each subject we teach with specific things on the walls, so it looks busy but is hard to avoid.

Your room looks great! Very clean and organized. It does not look too overwhelming. I love your windows and the green and blue colors look pretty together.
