This is my 2nd year teaching Kindergarten. I am thinking about putting out my scrapbook of pictures from last year at Open House. I also have a slide show/powerpoint that I could playing in the background. Would that be silly/pointless though? I don't guess parents would care about seeing last year's class, but I thought it might make the kids and parents feel a little better if they saw the kids from last year having fun. What do you think?
When is open house? If it's after school actually begins (mine is in Oct) you could switch in pics of your new kiddies...
I think the pictures are a good idea. I think it would be comforting to both the students and the parents to see what they can expect. I may also make the students more excited to do what they saw in the pictures!
I would not only for the reason that in my class we do some surprise things that wouldn't be a surprise if they see the photos. Other than that it's a great idea. Our back to school nite is late September and I always have a slideshow of the class so the parents can see their children at work and play in school The children do not come at night.
I am going to have my slide show that I played for my students on graduation day last year playing on the first day this year. I think seeing all of the great things we did will give the students something to look forward to.
I think the pictures are a great idea- like everyone says, it will let them know what's to come...I'm sure the parents and some students will feel better!
I don't think it is pointless or silly at all! I think you should do it! Parents and kids would love to see what fun activities you have planned for the year. Plus if you have last years students or parents stop by to say hello, they would love seeing pictures of themselves displayed in your classroom.
I think that is a wonderful idea! 1. It shows them the kind of teacher that you are 2. It gives them an idea of some of the activities that will take place 3. The kids will be excited and feel like you are a "fun" teacher--and that is all they care about. I love the idea!!! I don't see any down side to it. Let us know how it goes!
