Does anyone have a suggestion for a a read-aloud that would take only 1-2 hours or so? We just finished a novel, but I still want to do read aloud for the last few days and I want to get a good long session or two in...

Picture books are great, but do you have any other suggestions?

Freckle Juice? Chocolate Fever? They are pretty short. I also love the book The Journey of Edward Tulane. It is not real long and has a great message but sad themes throughout.

My kids love Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It's short but really silly too.

I just read my kids a children's version of Beowulf, which they LOVED. We talked a lot about how old it is, and got a lot of historical information from it. It is very bloody and violent though... which my kids liked a lot. This version was written only in English words with Anglo-Saxon ancestry. No one in my class had seen the movie.

How about Nick Harte Was Here? It's about a kid who's brother dies in a bike accident because he wasn't wearing his helmet. Might be a good time to read this one since they are starting to ride bikes again.
