Share your favorite ONE SENTENCE (or less) quotation, mantra, bit of advice, etc...

...for teachers at any stage of their career.

Mine is a bit of advice:

Never do for a student what he can do for himself.

Leave it all in the classroom and leave work at work.

Don't do more than you truly need to do--save your energy for the CLASSROOM.

Dont stay up until 2am perfecting a handout and then be wiped out when you are with the kids. Your best in the classroom is worth more than a perfect handout.

"What is the point of learning something if you don't use it?"

This is what I constantly tell my students as we review and build upon material.

It takes one fool to start an argument, but it takes two to make a conversation out of it.

I added the "but" to make it one sentence. :)

Never put off tomorrow what you could do today.

I lived by this when I was younger because I would get so anxious when long term assignments were due. I could NEVER procrastinate because I would have extreme anxiety that it wouldn't get done in time. I literally did it the first week it was due, and inevitably tweet it until the due date. I have since gotten over most of that anxiety...but I still refuse to leave anything for the last minute!

If there has been no learning, there has been no teaching.

(ie, you can't say "but I taught them that..." if they didn't learn it. You might have covered it with the most awesome lesson ever. It might not even be your fault but outside circumstance that caused them to not get it. But - if there has been no learning, there has been no teaching.)

"Your (the teacher's) worst day could be their (student's) best day."

The above means that none of us really know what kind of home life kids have. As we know, some like to be at school as a way to "escape".
