There's a million shampoos out there, which one(s) do you use? I like the higher end brands, like Alterna Caviar & Umberto Beverly Hills, but I'll get a drugstore brand here & there, like Pantene & Neutrogena. I don't stick w/ 1 brand only. In my bathroom, I have about 10 different 1/2 used bottles that I alternate. I'm not buying any more for a long time!
I have terrible dry scalp, so it's Head and Shoulders for dh and I. It seems to work just fine. I never notice a different with high end brands on my hair.
I like to play around with them but I agree with Jem. I've never noticed a difference in higher ends. Of course dry scalp plagues me and I have to use head and shoulders most of the time. Probably the only one I really gravitate towards is Paul Mitchel's Tea Tree Oil shampoo but I suspect the only reason is because I like the tingly scalp feeling and I just discovered a head and shoulders product that does the exact same thing.
Herbal Essence or Paul Mitchell. "Drugstore" shampoos are just as good EXCEPT VO5 and Suave. VO5 is just nasty and Suave is mostly water is what I have learned after using Herbal Essence for awhile.
I use Pantene or Garnier Nutrisse. I can't use expensive hair products because of the amount I need to use. The only time u can brush my hair is in the shower, and only if I have gobs if conditioner it it. My hair just soaks up product.
Juice (a salon brand) is the best for my hair - it was the first brand I used where I actually noticed a difference in my hair - but it can get expensive so I also throw in some supermarket brands every so often as well - usually Sunsilk.
I use Giovanni (from Target). I have naturally curly hair, so I have been doing some experimenting with hair products trying to avoid silicones and sulfates and Giovanni is the best I have found so far.
This! I use sulfate-free shampoos which can be a little hard to find. I'm currently using Organix (which does contain a silicone, but it washes out).
I usually switch it up. I make sure I use something specifically for colored hair for a month or so after I color, especially if I do red, because it fades so fast. Right now I am using Color Technician by Frederick Fekkai. I bought the sample back at Target with the deep conditioner and I love it. It smells so good. I use a few of his products. I also really like Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy line hair products. I love the Stress Relief Eucalyptus Mint and the Energizing Tangerine Ginger. mmmmm. They also make my hair smell so good. As does the So Sexy stuff from VS but I haven't bought that in awhile. I don't use salon brands, but I do tend to use the higher end store brands because I feel like the others make my hair feel kind of waxy.
I'm really happy with the EverPure shampoo and conditioner. My hair is rather fine, and the conditioner seems to soak in rather than coating my hair, so it doesn't interfere with what little bit of body I have. Smells good, too!
Catwalk by Tigi's Oatmeal and Honey Shampoo and Conditioner--- smells like cookies.......... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I also love ABBA's products. Sorry, I used to work at ULTA so I'm kind of a shampoo snob. If you're ever interested in trying a salon brand, definitely check them out. A couple times a year they'll have salon brand liter sales for $10. (That's a LOT of shampoo-- it'll last you a long time.) Also, if you buy a salon brand and you don't love it, as long as 75% of the product is left, you can return it for a full refund (w/receipt) or exchange it for something else. It's not a policy that they advertise, but a lot of customers really appreciated it when I worked there because committing to an expensive shampoo/conditioner can make you feel uneasy. The products really are great and most of the time, the shampoos are never returned. (Remember to give them a try for at least a week before giving up!) Okay, off my retail soapbox now-- thank God I finally got a teaching job, what a long year that was!
I wish that drugstore brand called Salon Selectives was still in the stores. I LOVE their crisp apple scent! I was so nostalgic for it, I ordered a bottle of their shampoo & conditioner a while back!
Like some others have said, I have found that fancypants expensive salon shampoo is no different from drugstore shampoo, so I don't buy that. I tend to like Pantene, Garnier, and Head & Shoulders (for the tingly feeling that someone else mentioned....I love that too!). I choose or don't choose certain shampoos/conditioners based on two factors: the smell and whether my hair is a tangled mess afterwards. It has to smell good. I don't like things that are too floral, and I absolutely hate anything that has "milk and honey" written anywhere on the bottle. Seriously, I gagged a little just typing that because I had a bad experience with a very large bottle of milk and honey salon shampoo. Since I'm super frugal, I couldn't let myself just throw it away and had to use the whooooole bottle. YUCK. My favorite scents are mint and citrus. As for the tangles, I have curly hair that is prone to tangles. If I can't comb through my hair after using a certain conditioner, I'll never buy that one again. The Pantene stuff seems to perform really well in this area, and I think it's because it leaves a waxy residue. I know some people hate that, but I don't mind it because it makes my hair combable and manageable.
I will say that regardless of the shampoo I'm using, my hair always looks the best when I've gone 2-3 without washing it. The sweatier, greasier, etc. that it is, the more amazing it looks after it's been washed. If I have a big event and I can manage to stay home a few days before, I'll go without washing it just so it looks really great.
I also have curly hair that gets tangled easily. I have been using John Frieda's Root Awakening conditioner (I just use a cheaper Suave shampoo. For me the conditioner is more important). I also have the Root Awakening detangler that I spray on before I comb it. I used to get my shampoo and conditioner at Trader Joe's. I don't remember the name of it but it was in the a blue bottle. My husband just got their Tea Tree oil shampoo and it's really tingly (I stole some to try it out heheh). My hair looks the best when I wash it the night before and braid it or put it in a ponytail and sleep on it. It is prone to frizzyness and "poofiness" so it seems to tame itself overnight.
I alternate between Herbal Essences 2in1 coconut and Suave Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner. I am obsessed with mint and love the Suave. Sometimes my dry scalp will act up and I have to use DH's Head and Shoulders for a week or so.
I actually really like Suave. I know it's cheap, but it works well. I have a lot of hair, and I use a lot of shampoo (not to mention 2 daughters who both have long hair). I go broke if and when I try to use salon shampoo. I like Suave, especially in the summer, for its scents. I spend a lot of time around a campfire, and I need something that will get that smell out. During the school year, I might splurge on Garnier or something.
I have to be careful about the shampoos and conditioners I use. I use Alterna Life Solutions right now; it's a little bit pricey, but at least my hair doesn't fall out in clumps. I tried an organic brand from the drugstore, trying to save some money, but I ended up with an allergic reaction.
