I am so excited for this upcoming year! our district just got a new social studies program and i have been looking through it and thinking of different things i can do... When the kids come back to school in 2 weeks we will first be working on Investigating the past (cave art, detectives who study the past, etc..) i want to set up a cave-like environment in the classroom so the students can pretend they are detectives investigating the past and looking at different types of cave art. i am looking for some ways i could set up a cave-like environment in the classroom..... i am open to all suggestions!! thanks a bunch!!!!

use a tent as your cave and put whatever you need inside for your kids to "hunt"

Jaz, is this from History Alive!? I use the same text, last year when I taught this lesson, I put trash bags over my windows and "pained" cave art on them with chalk. I also had the students bring in flashlights for EC. We turned the lights out and moved the desks to the side and made the inside of the room a "cave" by using a tent. Hope this helps...
