Any ideas on a service learning project that I could do within my 6th grade classroom (4 sections.) -Something that could be carried out majorly in the classroom -Something that would tie in to Language Arts in some ways I know it is limiting, but I don't know what I can fully do right now, I can possibly expand on it later if things change.
Do you mean something local or not? What about collecting old prescription eyeglasses for an organization that recycles them? I think it is the Lion's Club. The LA part would be the written communication, procedures, letters home, publicity, etc.
looking in to this! Thanks for the suggestions, many are easy enough to do-but would still make a difference to someone. We have a problem with animal overpopulation (who doesn't), so I am trying to think of something we could do to help out, raise awareness-we have some super awesome rescue groups in the area and clinics that are desperately trying to help.
I'm trying for the first time: - Researching service organizations (e.g. Animal Shelter, Food Pantry) - Writing a proposal - Presenting proposal to whole class - "Winning" proposal = whole class volunteering at that agency
