OMG! Seriously! I have found a bed bug after waking up with a series of bites on my arm! I understand that I left pots soaking for 3 days in my kitchen not expecting to see maggots simply because I have done it before and no sign of a bug at the other apartments I lived in.

Now, I am utterly disgusted! I have bed bugs living in my mattress! My room is in no clutter and everything is KEPT CLEAN. However, my mattress and boxspring were placed on the floor until I was able to afford a bed frame. My previous frame broke and I was wanting to replace it next month. It looks as if I will need to purchase a whole new BED!

I never traveled anywhere nor went anywhere and brought back these critters! My father seemed to think that these are common when living amongst trees! NO! I lived around wooded areas and never experienced this! I think that the previous tenant was FILTHY and they failed to clean the APARTMENT thoroughly Or maybe the bugs traveled from next door!

The property manager told me that the issue is not their issue but well have someone to come out and take care of it at my own EXPENSE. LIKE OMG! I will not be renewing my LEASE. I am so pissed at the highest level! I am will be bunking on my couch until my bed set comes in! I am so afraid to get an air mattress because the bugs may travel onto that! I FEEL LIKE CRUMPLiNG UP AND DYING RIGHT NOW! LIKE WOW! BED BUGS! CREEEPPY

Another issue after issue! Not to mention how the walls in this place is super cheap and I am paying a lot of money to live here. OMG. My last place was only 550 a month to rent and never had this trouble with maggots or bedbugs! I am convinced that it is THIS PLACE. I pay 787 a month to live here! WHY ON EARTH IS STUFF LIKE THIS HAPPENING. ALSO, THE NUMBER OF TENNIS THAT HAVE DOGS! I am FREAKING OUT AND ABOUT TO LOSE IT! OMG OMG.

All I can say about the bed bug situation is that you have some classy company. Some very high priced hotels in NYC had a bed bug infestation, and it was major news. Consider yourself lucky that you don't have reporters knocking at your door. As far as tenants having dogs, I am assuming you knew it was pet friendly when you moved in, right? I was apartment hunting with my son when he moved out of state, and the one constant I noticed was that the people showing the apartments quickly pointed out whether pets were allowed or not. Although my son is not a pet owner, he likes the feel of pets in and around the buildings. Some he has come to know on a named basis, others he just sees in passing. We did visit one complex that was not pet friendly, and it was one of the first things they told us. https://www.bedbugguide.com/ may give you more insight into your problem.

It's a powder. You just throw it on whatever and let it do the work. I had a roommate who used it all the time as he shopped at the Goodwill for furniture. He would buy it, cover it in the powder and let it sit over night and then vacuum it before bringing it into the house.

I lived in areas before with dogs and nothing like this never occurred so naturally, I thought that the same about this place. However, I am starting to see that the difference between this place and the others is that it is bigger and the dog population is large! I am flabbergasted! Maybe the previous tennat had a dog that was dirty. i am not sure but I want to break my lease for sure

Just make sure you know what you are talking about before accusing the dogs of either the fly or bed bug issue, because the fly issue is certainly not exclusive to having pets, and neither, in what I have seen, is the bed bug issue. If you just don't like the dogs, well, you are on your own, but don't blame them for either of your insect issues.

    Do some research:
What is the main cause of bed bugs?
Bed Bug Infestation. Bed bugs are flat and small in size, allowing them to hide easily from view during the day when they are not active. They hide in mattresses, bed frames, bedding, furniture, carpets, baseboards and bedroom clutter. They are most commonly found in the seams of mattresses or inside box springs. They frequently travel from one place to another in luggage and bags when traveling and returning home.

Bedbugs climb up frame legs or bed skirts. The lack of a bed frame has little to do with bedbugs.

If you are getting a new mattress and box spring buy bed bug protectors (good ones) and put the mattress and box spring in the protectors before they even come in the apartment.

I know you said you couldn't get movers to move your stuff. Where did you get the mattress and box spring?

Don't forget about cleaning up bedroom clutter. Unfortunately, by now your critters are not just bed bound, so more extermination of those who have found a new home in the base-boards, carpet, or "clutter". I assume that clutter could be clothes on the floor, etc. Sad to say, but you may actually be carrying the critters with you as you move through your day or travel about. I so agree with the advice from a2z - protectors on BEFORE coming into the house.

I'm with czacza - talking about bed bugs makes my skin itch, too. They are so sneaky, not just "out there" where you have a decent chance of killing them without professional help. Time for Benadryl.

This was my mattress from my old apartment that my brother helped me move. Never had an issue until I came into this place. I am breaking my lease asap. I did not get any clothes from out the room! I checked the carpet and they are well into the carpet. Looks like an old infestation

You need to call a professional NOW. Bed bugs don’t go easily and will costs thousands (if not tens of thousands depending on the severity) of dollars for treatment and yes your landlord IS responsible. You need to make it clear to them that it is and threaten legal action if need be. I once lived in a complex with a bed bug infestation. Thankfully I never had an issue, but I did find one in my sheets when taking them out of the dryer in the shared laundry facilities. The complex treated many units ON THEIR dime and even checked my place multiple times for free. Needless to say I didn’t stay long.

It may be carpet beetles rather than bed bugs. They are easier to treat.

You know they get into couches too. There is nothing special about it being a bed. They get into electronics, clothing, furniture (including wood furniture), metal bed frames, etc.

You can clean bedbugs out of clothing with the proper procedures. They are probably the easiest of the things to deal with.

I suggest you research bedbugs on-line as vickylynn suggested. You will find that this is not insurmountable and what can be done.

And dry them on hot temperatures.

So why would you leave your clothing rather than take it? Or did you not really mean everything?

Sadly, you have been there long enough to have to suspect that any of your new found friends have found and colonized your clothes, sofa, etc. I am NOT well versed in getting rid of the critters, but know that it can be quite the undertaking. They are so good at hiding during the day, and only noticeable when they come out to feed. I would follow the exterminators recommendations about moving your belongings, and what to look for to make sure you don't take hitchhikers to your new place. Around here, the bed bug sniffing dogs are popular. It can alert to bed bugs that have colonized, helping you know what problems you may be packing up and taking with you. At one point weren't you considering renting furniture? Besides the financial sense of that, this would be my #1 concern. Best of luck!

    Are they definitely bed bugs?

Fleas are annoying. It took about a week to get the out of the carpet when my EX didn’t give the dog her flea meds. They nearly ate me alive before I found them. Time consuming, but not horrible to get rid of. Bed bugs? I would leave and not take anything with me I couldn’t debug easily.

And maggots? On dishes? That’s seriously gross, too. I often leave dishes in the sink. Never had any kind of bugs in the kitchen except ants, which were not even around the dishes. Of course, I always rinse the dishes, too. They’re dirty, but not gross dirty.
