Does anyone know about a good way to discuss Sept. 11 with pre-k children. I wanted to do an activity with the children and discuss it very discretely, but I don't know how to do this or if I even should do this.

    Thanks

I think I'd leave that up to their parents... many of them are so young and most of them were not even born when 9-11 happened. I am not sure it's a pre-k friendly topic...

It's way to abstract for them... and may scare some of them--

Are you onsite with an elementary campus? If something is being done there you may have to address the issue, questions may arise. If not, then I don't think it is necessary, unless a student brings it up. And that could happen, so I might be prepared for at least that in the same way you might say be prepared about addressing a question on slavery, simple honest statements. Also, I'm not sure if any children's books have been published for preK but quite a few sensitive topics have been. They are good to have around for those "in case" moments.

I didn't mention it to my kids; but we did fingerpaint a big American flag to hang up in the doorway of the center.

We don't do it... they are too young to understand... also a couple years ago I had a child who lost his aunt in 9/11....
