Hello, I was just wondering if anyone here actually majored in secondary education in college. I know a lot of people either major in elementary education or major in another field and then become certified to teach. I was wondering because I am considering becoming a middle or high school teacher and I am currently in college now.

I majored in Biology Secondary Education. I later had "general sciences" added (meaning I could teach any secondary science). I hope to get middle grades added when I move back to the USA.

My university didn't offer a secondary education degree. My degree is in my subject area, and I took education classes as a minor.

My university didn't offer a degree in Secondary Ed. I majored in my content area. I took Ed classes as part of my Masters program.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a concentration in English. I've actually found (upon trying to transfer my certification to other states) that majoring in English seems to be preferred.

I would major in the subject you want to teach. I think that makes you more marketable and it's more easy to get jobs in other fields if you decide to later on.

My degree is in Adolescent to Young Adult Language Arts Education. It was basically an English degree minus the foreign language requirement and an Ed degree.

ETA: this is common in my area. We never hire people who aren't licensed. Many districts prefer to hire people without Masters so they can pay less.

I doubled-majored in Secondary Ed and in History.

I have never seen a program where you can major in Secondary Ed without also majoring in the subject area you want to teach.

We've hosted student teachers that were getting this degree. They were the least capable and they had a difficult time finding a job. My district would prefer to hire someone withoutcertification than one without content knowledge.

Concentration means 27 credits in whatever content area you wish to teach. If I had known, I would have double majored as well.

I already had a BA and an MA.
I earned a BSE in Secondary English Education. This was the option available at my university.
I have since earned 18 graduate hours in English and found them extremely useful for my teaching.
    I'm glad I have "both."

I majored in secondary education with a concentration in life science. The [content] curriculum wasn't too different from that of a biology major.
