Hi! I just went on a first interview for a secondary art position. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions for a demo lesson, and what has worked for them? Thank you!!!
Clearly, this person is not an art teacher... I did a lesson where students created ink blots by dropping ink onto paper, then rocking the paper to make the ink run across the paper in different directions. Then they would look at the lines and shapes created by the ink and decide if they "saw" anything in these lines and shapes (sort of like when you look up at clouds and see animal shapes). Then I gave them oil pastels and they used them on top of the ink blot in order to bring forth the image they saw. It's a fun lesson and kids like it, and it is focused on creativity.
Hello Jackie! Congratulations on your interview. I hope that you were offered the position. I suggest something relatively easy that will also "wow". In my unit on Pastels, I include some warm up exercises by Ria Hill that could make a quick and easy demo. Pastels are a bit messy, but it is a quick and easy way to demonstrate a bit about color theory, and to show admins how much fun students will be having in the art room! All the best!
I wanted to include the link, but the forum won't allow it. Google helenlowery and click on Art 1 then Pastels Day 2 and you'll find it there.
