    Hi!

I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to do a demo lesson in a second grade class next week. I will be running a Writers Workshop block -- from mini-lesson to sharing. I know that they have just finished a unit on fairy tales, and are starting nonfiction on Thursday (my demo is on Wednesday), so I am little confused about which direction to take.

I have only had experience in 3rd and 4th grade so far, so I would love to hear from some 2nd grade teachers about what writing strategies your students are working on. If you have any awesome mini lessons in your repertoire, please share! Any guidance is much appreciated!! Thank you!!

How about an intro to writing an All About book, or a How To?

Since they are familiar with fairy tales and presumably have written their own already, what about giving them a basic fairy tale (1 -3 sentences) and then talk about adding details and having them embellish the story on their own.
