Hi there! I’m am elementary teacher who did not major in a science. Over time I’ve become increasingly interested in science education. I’m wondering is anyone has any suggestions on where to take science teacher courses (online only) that don’t cost a fortune. I’m more interested in personal development/knowledge than if it leads to a state license add-on. I’ve been searching university extension schools, found one for math but not science (ugh!). Any suggestions??
Depending on which state you want to be certified in, you should probably find out ahead of time which courses you will need. When I wanted to add on a certification I contacted the certification office in my state and they told me what I needed and then I took some online courses from the state university as well as a community college. They had both online and in person options. They have plenty of online universities but unless you know what courses you need you might end up not making the right choice.
