I know it is often difficult to find science and social studies resources, so I thought it would be convinient to make a thread where everyone can share resources. I will add the resources that people post to the list in this first post. I will sort the resources by science and social studies and then further by topic/unit. ****= newly added Social Studies: America and around the world: ****http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/District75/Departments/Literacy/AdaptedBooks/makingapinata.htm ****http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/District75/Departments/Literacy/AdaptedBooks/somuchtoseeinnyc.htm ****http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/District75/Departments/Literacy/AdaptedBooks/puertorico.htm ****http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/District75/Departments/Literacy/AdaptedBooks/italyandamerica.htm http://www.slatersoftware.com/Make a Flag-1.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Empire State Building.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/life long ago intro.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/life long ago questions.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Pearl Harbor.pdf Sporting events and the history of sports: http://www.slatersoftware.com/World cup.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/What is Soccer.pdf Fun facts about food and other inventions and music: http://www.slatersoftware.com/ice cream history.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Jazz Music.pdf People: ****http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/District75/Departments/Literacy/AdaptedBooks/donovanmcnabb.htm http://www.slatersoftware.com/JohnnyAppleseed.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Before Hiding Summary.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Hiding Summary.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/After Hiding Summary.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Anne Frank Text Summary.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Einstein Biography.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Einstein Cloze.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Dr. Seuss Biography.pdf http://www.slatersoftware.com/Geo. thanks, very well written article, found it through a random yahoo search and i shared it on my twitter!I was looking at this site for the first time and I was very impressed. Very good job and posts here. The 1st part was really great and very occurate..
I tried those links and found out that slatersoftware has been closed down since June 2012. Go here instead: http://www.suncastletech.com/freestuff.html
That is a great link, stepka! I wish it had activity sheets to go with the stories like for the bats.
Go to readworks.org for grade specific articles hhmi.org - science Science news for students, Eureka Labs Science news
Thank you for this post! It is difficult to find science resources. Here are some. Robotics activities for writing and science: http://www.positivelyautism.com/downloads/RobotBattleActivities.pdf Electric Circuit Diagram Symbols worksheets: http://www.positivelyautism.com/downloads/ElectricityUnitPreview.pdf Electricity Safety Activities: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com...tivities-for-Autism-and-Special-Needs-2405034 Weather Vocab and activities: http://positivelyautism.weebly.com/freebies-academics-theme-units---weather.html I'm looking up the rest I wanted to share and I'll post them soon. Here are a couple that are somewhat related to social studies: Knights and Castles Vocab and Activities: http://positivelyautism.weebly.com/freebies-academics-theme-units---knights-and-castles.html Pirate Vocab and Activities: http://positivelyautism.weebly.com/freebies-academics-theme-units---pirates.html
OK, if you haven't gone to my thread with all the free links, now would be a great time. Don't let the number of pages daunt you - most things are less than a year old, and I routinely go through the post to check links, because nothing is worse than going to use one, only to find it is broken, or no longer in service. I continuously post as new stuff comes into my focus, and welcome others to post. You will have to search a bit, since it is mostly stream of consciousness for me. If anyone want to "organize" for me, I will gladly work with you to edit the posts and pages! Hope you find something you enjoy, and if there is something very specific you are looking for, let me know - I am an equal opportunity browser, especially in the summer!
I don't use printables, but I swear by the site, www.ducksters.com. It has been such help for kids researching for reports because it is perfect for 5th through 8th grades with just enough information and not an overwhelming amount.
Thank you so much for all this valuable information. I have enjoyed looking through and going over everything!
As an added resource for anyone in the southeastern Pennsylvania area here is information about the developing teacher programs at the new Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. For some reason I am not able to post the link so just go on Google and type in Museum of the American Revolution then click on programs at the top which will lead you to educator resources. Thanks
