I went to the website, and tomorrow was not listed as a holiday. I tried to call my CT but no answer.

So are schools open tomorrow? Particularly in Mobile, Alabama.

    THANKS!

Here in Texas (at least our area), we are closed due to TEACHER Inservice. It's also Columbus day?

In my school district, the students are off but we have an in-service. However, my nieces have school and they live about 15 minutes from me. This allows them to have a week off in February.

I don't think there are any schools in my entire state that are open on Columbus Day. I have no idea about schools in your area, though.

We're open too. It's a field trip day for me though, so I don't mind. Plus, I get a week off for Thanksgiving this year! Whoo hoo!

Business as usual on Columbus Day. The school systems in this area don't close for MLK Day, either. Or Veteran's Day. Or anything, really, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. I mean, Fall Break and Winter Break. Sigh. They have Spring Break in March, but we just don't do the little individual 'days' here.

BUT, we're out the middle of the second week of May.

It all evens out in the end. We get Labor, Columbus, Veteran's, MLK, and Memorial Days off. President's Day and Patriot's Day (that's only MA anyway) usually fall on our February and April vacation weeks. We're in school until at least the second or third week of June, though.

Our center is closed for kids, but we have inservice. We only close 7 holidays, and this is the one that teachers still have to report. It's an area-wide inservice day.

In Texas we usually have it off. However, we had a new law this year that made us all go back later, so we lost several holidays. We used some in-service days to on holidays to make up for it, but not Columbus Day.

Last year, we had a Monday and Tuesday off as a "mini fall break" in October, but since school started later, we don't get it this year.....two years ago, we had a whole week off in October....I miss that for sure!!! I'm tempted to take a personal day, but worry that something might happen later that I need it for.

This is the first year I have ever been off for Columbus day. Growing up in California, we never got it off. The last couple of years at my school in Arizona, we didn't get it off. For some reason, this year, they gave us off. I don't know what caused the change, but I'll take it!

Everything here in upstate NY is closed tmrw. Public schools, private schools, colleges, banks, the state offices, even my husband is off tmrw and he works in the private sector. I thought that it was required for schools and state offices to be closed because it's a national holiday??

This is the latest county fair in Ohio. A lot of the students are involved with showing their animals.

Another school got three days off the week after school started - for their town's Sweetcorn Days!!

The best schools to go to when you are a kid are schools run by Dept of Defense. My dad was active duty military for all of my schooling - we got out for everything :)

In Indiana, we don't take many holidays off. We are always so worried about snow days. This year we have the WEIRDEST calendar ever that I didn't vote for. If we have no snow days, we have 4 day weeks for the entire month of May. I would just rather go a few of those fridays and get out early.

Webmistress--check your district's web site for an "instructional calendar" which should have all holidays marked.

Here in NYC we're closed tomorrow! (Yay!)

In Arizona it is "Fall break" not Columbus Day.
Since we have a large Native American Population it is called "Fall break" since Columbus supposed to have had "Indian" Slaves and he was the start of the down fall of Native Americans.

If you are Italian or Hispanic it is Columbus Day

Schools are a function of the State Government & Local Government not the Federal Government so it has to be a STATE holiday AND/OR a Local holiday.

Last year, we held parent conferences on Columbus Day so the teachers had to report, but no students. This year the district is going half a day tomorrow morning, but the afternoon will be student free for conferences, Tues will be the same way.
