Just thought you might like to know that a few days ago Wal Mart had 24-ct crayons for .20 each. I bought a whole class set!
Gotta love those "opening price points" at Wal-mart. Don't get suckered into buying things that are priced higher than the competition though.
I wait until right before school starts... Usually staples or office depot will have them REALLY cheap (under .20) and then our walmart will beat the price. That is when I buy all my behavior folders and journals. Then I turn the reciepts in to my bookeeper to be reinbursed.
At my Wal-mart they were 10 cents!! I walked in one day as I usually do at this time of year to check for back to school supplies which they are slowly putting out now. I asked today! They are starting to get them in! The Roseart crayons (I think that was the brand) were 10 cents for 24-pack. I passed on them as I have enough crayons and I'm determined not to spend money on supplies I do not need. I want in today and every last box was gone!!! I did get glue for 15 cents a bottle. Roseart brand 4 oz bottle. Those were all gone today too!
Wow - those are great deals! I'm surprised because it is very early. When you asked, did they mention when they would be having the "big" sale? It may be too early for them to know...
The Wal-Mart near me had .10 Rose Art Crayons, also. But the .20 crayons I was talking about earlier were Crayola.
IMO, the Crayola brand is worth the extra 10 cents. I have also found the Rose Art glue to be too watery. If a kid had Rose Art crayons or glue, I'd usually swap out with them from my supply. This is definitely the time to buy those supplies... I've tried checking at other times of the year and the prices are never that good.
I think they do... Most of the time I've heard about deals on the Internet like this and then go grab 'em.
A friend of mine who worked in a Wallmart in a wealthy area of town but lived near and tended to stop in at a middle classs area-Wallmart noticed there were major differences in price. The wealthy Wallmart was actually cheaper than the middle-class one. He asked about it and the manager told him the price difference had something to do with tax rate differences (I think that was it.) I would imagine the sales flyers would be all the same, regardless, but I think regular prices on many items are not actually the same at each Wallmart.
They have these sales on into July right? I'm going out of town and won't be back until July 8. But I really need some of these supplies. I remember last summer there were some great deals but I don't remember when.
I'm not even out of school until Monday and they are already having school supply sales!! I went to KMart for some pool supplies the other day, couldn't find much swim stuff but found tons of school stuff. It isn't even July 4 yet!!
I know. Though the deals are great, I don't want to think about the end of summer when it has just begun.
My dad works in CVS and says to watch for the second week of July because that's when the back to school wars will begin.
I got a TON of things from CVS or Walgreens (can't remember which) last summer for my treasure box. All of their toys were clearanced. Some were $3-$5 all for around $.25. It was QUITE a bargain. I am hoping to catch that kind of clearance again. Let me know if your dad hears anything about that, please.
I agree with Amanda, Crayola products are definitely superior to Rose Art, especially for colored pencils and markers. But - I haven't even unpacked my tote bag from the last day of school yet!!
Czacza, You don't get OUT until Monday? We start BACK July 28th WITH students. We actually go back the 17th.
MelissainGA, I can't believe you're going back so soon. When did you get out? We got out on June 9 and do not go back until August 21. Cathy
I always try to shop at CVS and Walgreens right after any holiday. I do use the candy, but there's always other stuff, too. Some of it can be used year round. I'm still using plastic cups at home with stars and stripes on them from some other 4th of July. Sometimes it gets to 75 and then 90% off.
Target hasn't started their sales yet. They usually do one super item each week in August here (like a 12-pack of pencils for 10 cents one week and 5 bottles of 4 oz Elmer's glue for $1 the next week). I stock up for my own kids, as well as school. You know they'll all run out of pencils and glue, and then you'll be paying 1.50 a bottle in November! Kim
If I hear anything, I'll let you know. Right now all he says is second week of July for school stuff.
For pencils, keep an eye out for when Staples and Office Depot start competing with each other. I was able to get a case of pencils for $7 and my two kids still have a dozen left.
I think kids eat pencils and erasers.LOL But I don't mind if they take them then I know they are doing their work in their other classes.
Debby... The fun thing about CVS is the coupons at the bottom of the receipt. Its like getting stuff for FREE! Their prices are only good for sale items AND if you have 'the card' Walgreens already has the shelf items with super eyecatching tags. Like buy two get third free...etc..
The best time to shop is when stores like CVS and Rite Aid go out of bussines...I stocked up on looseleaf paper last year for around .15 a pack, and the same with papermate pens! I usually buy crayons and glue when walmart has their back to school sale...
They don't seem to go out of business around here - they keep adding new ones. It's like there has to be a CVS or Walgreens at every major intersection. Yes, Ruth, those printed coupons are great at CVS.
It's been a while since one has gone out of bussiness, but there were two nearby that went out of bussiness last year, and I had a party!!
This might not apply to everyone, but CVS just bought out Osco's and my dad says that the Osco brands will be on clearance at all stores, not to mention that if they are in near proximity of an existing CVS they will most likely close. Hope that helps.
I just found out about this great site called "Classroom Direct" (I can't post links so just google it) Anyway, their clearance section is great!!
I've kept quiet about my opinion of Roseart products because most seem to like them. I greatly dislike Ropseart crayons. They leave waxy 'scraps' when Jeannie colors with them. I once found a giant class set of Roseart crayons at an outlet for 2.99 , but we rarely use them.
I just bought red and yellow paper 3 prong folders for .10, green plastic 3 prong folders for .88, and colored composition books for .50. I love back to school sales. Although ALL the wide ruled spiral notebooks for .10 were SOLD OUT! I need to hit up another Wal Mart.
I saw a few 70 count spirals at my Wal-Mart for .10 each. Crayola Crayons were still .20 each for a 24 package. I also found Elmer's Glue 5 for $1.00.
Oh, becky, I am with you against roseart! I think all of their products are total junk compared to Crayola. Some brands do passable imitations, but roseart is not one of them. I buy only Crayola crayons/markers and Elmer's glue (though scotch3m makes a good glue stick, the purple one)
While we're on the topic of cheap notebooks, doesn't anyone sell the good kind anymore? The $0.10 ones at Walmart used to be gorgeous, but now they're the same as everywhere else. Same goes for 3-hole college ruled paper. Even Mead has converted to this icky thin stuff. I can't stand writing on it! I want good paper where you can use both sides without looking sloppy. I also like nice, clean blue and red lines, not all fuzzy or faded. Staples had a great 3-hole paper a couple of years back, but now they're down to mediocre and I've almost run out of my private stash. I am conserving my paper as if it was the middle ages! This is ridiculous!
I wish you all were from Okies from Muskogee like I am... There is a restaurant supply store (don't ask) that has TONS of supplies for 90% off! Yes, 90%!!!! I got $125 worth today for $12.50 and I had to stop because they were closing shop! I will be back first thing in the morning though. If there is ANYONE even close to my area it is definitely worth the trip! They have everything! Storage, Posters, BB materials, Stickers, Rulers, Scissors, Folders, Pencils and Sharpeners, EVERYTHING!!!! I got 20 bottles of Elmers glue for $1.60! It is a NEW teachers dream! I even told the lady that I was a first year teacher and she gave me MORE than 90% off on some of the things! They just want to get rid of it!
wow, that's awesome. Wish they were selling it online -- probably not enough goods to go around that way, but you're way out of my driving range... for the price of gas it's cheaper to buy everything else full price!
Okay! That sounds worth the drive from NW AR! What is the name of this store? and where is it located?
