I am pretty excited about this school year. We are in a BRAND NEW school and I have some really cute kids. I do have almost the ENTIRE PTA board's children in my class. Hopefully, this won't present an issue. Wish me luck! When does your school start?

I have open house Tuesday. Kids come next Tuesday. That's a week later than last year. My DH doesn't start until August 14th.

Good luck. I hope it is a great year. This seems much too early to go back, though.

We start soon as well. Have a great first day! It doesn't feel right to me to go back to school so early.

We start the Tuesday after Labour Day... but I was working with teachers and students until noon on June 30, so I will just be over here, enjoying my summer...

Have a great first day back, though! There is something magical about the beginning of a new school year!

Kids start August 10, we start August 8. I also have PDs this coming week. Since I'm new to the district and school, I was already in every day (not all full days, though) last week setting up my room.

Yes, there is! Personally, now that my room looks like a classroom and not a huge pile of furniture and boxes, I'm getting more and more excited.

mrsammieb, have a great first day! :)

We are a year round school and go every six weeks and get one week off. With 2 weeks in December. We got out May 22 before Memorial Day. So it's been 7 weeks of summer. I could use longer! BUT I am ready and I love the breaks! Thank you for the well wishes. I am excited!

We're a year-round school as well, but you get MUCH more time off than we do!

I am confused a bit. How is it year round with 7 weeks off in the summer?

Same question I had. We get 8 weeks for summer - actually more like 7.5 - and aren't year round.

I think they consider it year round since there are so many breaks but we still only go 180 days? I don't know? I tried to look it up on our district website but it doesn't say that. BUT all the teachers have said that? Weird? I had a GREAT first day. My class is so cute! (please let it last!)

Mrsammieb, your year round schedule sounds nice! Do you prefer it over the traditional school schedule?

Knew that sounded a little less on the clock than ours. We have 206 instructional days.

Still confused. Year round schools tend to have class most of the summer.

Could they be teaching summer school so they consider it year round?

Year round can have 180 days but they never have 7 weeks off. Those weeks are split between quarters.

Woah! I've never heard of any state requiring that many days.

It isn't a requirement. My charter school is a year-round school for Dropout Prevention and Recovery (DOPR). We got a week off before Summer Session and will have another week off when it ends on the 10th. We also get a generous Winter Break and a decent Spring Break.
