I am excited and sad and nervous all at the same time. I really want to set a good foundation of procedures. It's so tricky because it we want to just right into work! Say a little prayer for me!

Good luck on your first day! I always take a list of every single procedure I want to teach, and then check them off as we naturally come to them. Then I'm sure I don't forget anything.

    Have a great day!

It's going to be great! It is sad to go back when I think about how much I am going to miss being home with my little ones, but I love love love the back to school season. The newness of it all and seeing how excited the kids are is the absolute best. You are going to have a great year!!

Have you thought about making a list of all the procedures you want to teach and how you want to teach them? This always helps keep me on track and when I need to reteach them it helps keep me accountable for making sure that everything stays consistent. Best of luck!!

    Hope

The first few days where they are actually 100% focused on you and engaged in the lessons the entire time. AAH! Those are the days. LOL

Hope you had a great first day and that everything went as smoothly as possible. There are always blips on the first day and while we do focus on routines and procedures, also know that you won't totally mess up your year on the first day :). My goal on the first day is for everyone to want to come back for the second!

I had a good first day and a better second day. I guess it can only improve right. You forget how incapable first graders are in the beginning. They did super impress me with their thinking but their stamina for sitting is so minimal. Thanks for the well wishes!

They will blossom with your care, I am sure. Have a great year.

I love that you used the word stamina, because it implies that it can be improved. Grade 1s are very young at the beginning of the year. To improve my students' stamina, I always began with an achievable goal - 30 seconds. I would tell them the expectations - sit quietly, work at your own desk (whatever!) and then set the timer for 30 seconds. When everyone did exactly what they were supposed to for the entire 30 seconds, we celebrate and gradually added to the time. If someone went off task during the 30 seconds, we restarted the time.

It didn't take long for them to become pros!
