The schools where I live (southern Ohio) have been out all week! My school is closed tomorrow, but I don't know about my son's school. We (our house) have been without electricity since yesterday at 6:30 a.m.,and it might not be restored until Sat or Sun!! We are surviving with gas logs and maually lighting our stove! As of tomorrow, my school will have three days to make-up. I have enjoyed the time at home, and making the days up won't be so bad. We will use President's Day and the day after Easter. Our contract forbids the use of Good Friday. If this stays the case, we will only have to make one day up at the end of the year. However, they are predicting more snow on Sunday! I am at my hsuband's office doing my master's homework and checking out AtoZ! I might be gone for a couple more days, though! I miss the internet and TV!
I posted this link in the other snow day thread. It's Barack Obama commenting on D.C schools taking a snow day today. Pretty funny! http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/01/obama-jokes-was.html
Tomorrow will be my 4th snow day this week! DH said "it must be nice getting a week off"...I had to remind them, it's really not a week off for me...I'll have to work days we were supposed to be off, and then 3 days will be tacked on to the end....
Well, one of "my" four schools is already closed for Friday. Another school is on a two-hour delay. No word on the third. I don't think my fourth school has closed at all this week!!
I'm closed. Hooray...three extra days at the end of the year. At this rate, we'll be in school until July.
We have been out allweek. My school has no electricity. If we get the snow that is being predicted for next week, we won't be back next week, either! Yikes!
We were out all week too...just got the kids back into the routine after Christmas break, and now we get to do it all over again!
I don't agree with Obama on a lot of things, but he's right about DC in the snow...there's kind of a southern mentality about snow in DC- they just don't know what to do with it...very tough to get around...I found that with most places I've lived south of the Mason Dixon!!
I agree that at times this area goes crazy with the snow (I live near DC) however..the weather that day was really, really, really terrible. It wasn't really snow...just ice. And they don't have the equipment to get it all cleared out in time. I think they made the right call that day with cancelling. The roads were all a sheet of ice.
Ohio County Kentucky has had widespread power outages since 4 am Tuesday morning. We have been informed that it could take up 2 weeks before everything is restored. We have three different National Guard units in our county. Today was the first day that temperatures got above freezing. It looks like we might get another round of snow coming in on Sunday and ending on Tuesday.
Oh I am sorry to hear that hdb2008! We had a terrible ice storm last year and my power was out for a week! School was also cancelled for the week because several schools were without power. I hope they restore the power quickly!
Yay! After four long days and three long nights, we finally have our electricity restored!!! I don't know about many of the other local areas, though. I couldn't stand it any longer! It is so dark by 6:00 p.m., and waaay to early to go to bed! I love having light tonight!!!!
Call me touchy, but I didn't think Obama needed to say 'even my seven year old said...'. I don't know why that bothered me, but it did.
I know it was a relatively harmless comment, but I'm with Becky. It's not a big deal but it wasn't the most tactless comment to make.
As of this morning at 10:00; 75% of the homes in our county were still without power. My electricity came back on today (Sunday) around 4:30 this afternoon. We received news today that school would be out until further notice. Currently there is only one school that has power and it is being used as an Emergency Shelter. There were 300 people to use the shelter last night. This is the only medical needs shelter in the state. The National Guard along with EMS began a county-wide door-to-door sweep and will continue this for the next 48 hours or until all homes have been checked for people in need. czacza- To answer your questions. We did not have any heat source until Thursday afternoon when a friend came from Indiana to bring us a kerosene heater; as there was not place in the state or as far south as Nashville, TN to get one. Yesterday the local hardware store finally received a shipment of generators and my DH was able to pick one up. As for how I was able to get online….Luckily, my laptop was charged up and my phone service was restored.
