Because of budget problems in our district, it's very likely that there will be some changes to our schedule. Right now we're on a rotating A/B block schedule with an early bird. Teachers without an early bird are at school from 7:30 until 2:41. Teachers with an early bird are at school from 6:50 until 2:01.

They will almost certainly drop the early bird. If that happens, ALL classes will start at 7 AM, which means teachers will need to be at school at 6:30. Our day will be done at 1:41.

Is anyone else done with their day so early?

Although I'm not a morning person, I could get used to that. I'd much rather start early & be done early any day!

I haven't heard anything about hr changes at our schools...yet.

I teach a first period, which is 7:00-7:50, and my prep is sixth period after lunch. So I teach straight through from 7:00-12:07, which is a bit exhausting, but you get used to it. Technically I'm done at 1:47, but I usually stay at school until about 2:30 most days. It's been nice while I'm in grad school, because I leave at lunch those days (usually to finish my homework!)

I would hate to have to start at 7 am. My school starts at 8:45 and I love it. I am definitely not a morning person. I don't think that getting out earlier would really effect me because I like to stay late. I usually stay for 2 or 3 hours after school. If school got out around 2 pm I would probably just stay for 3-4 hours every day.

We have homeroom at 7:30, teachers start at 7:10. Students are done at 2:40, teachers at 3:00. So, although we start pretty early, we have a longer day than a lot of schools so we're not done that early. Last year I was at another school that also started at 7:30 but I was done at 2:35 (kids at 2:20).

I wouldn't mind the early hours, but I think the research is pretty clear that adolescents do not function at their best at the crack of dawn. I understand budget cuts, but why is the day being moved earlier instead of later?

My school is weird and we have two shifts of classes. Classes start at 7am, but I teach in the second shift, from 11:30am-6pm. Though there have been studies on adolescents learning better later than earlier, and though I get to sleep in, I hate my schedule!

I don't like finishing teaching when it's dark outside. It feels so late and I don't want to stay around for a couple hours to work, though I need to. It's hard only being able to run errands in the mornings, as I always feel rushed and stressed about the upcoming school day. When it gets to the late afternoon/early evening, kids don't necessarily pay attention any better - usually they're hungry or worn out from the day. Though they may have started school later, they're usually up early doing other stuff, and by 5pm are ready to call it quits.

I'd personally love to back to a normal school schedule. :)

I would LOVE that! I am at school by 6:30 most days anyways! My kids get out at 2:45 but teachers have to stay until 3:15. SInce I live an hour away, and drive through traffic "h-e-double toothpicks" I would love to leave earlier!!!!:D
