I'd like to start using some sort of sand tray for literacy for my students in small group to practice sight words. I'm not really sure what to use though. I need something that is small enough that each child could have one in front of them, but big enough to write a word on. Also, needs to be able to be stored and kept clean. My fear is colored sand everywhere!!

Anyone have any creative ideas? I know cookie sheets would work....but how to store them?

    Thanks!

Pizza boxes, cover all the corners with packing tape. They store great and are cheap...local pizza restaurant donates them every year for our portfolios.

By the way...those plastic shelves that snap together will hold them perfectly. They are less than $20 at Walmart.

I have used those little styrofoam trays from the meat dept. at a grocery store (new, of course!). You can often get them donated too. Also, I bought cafe trays (without compartments) and those are great for activities too. Good luck!
