Hi! Question- Why is is that my district that I am leaving was paying me for an MA+ 30....but the district I am moving to will only pay me MA+ 15?

I have my BA. After my BA, I did a graduate ESL cert program of 12 credits. Then I got my MA. Then I did an 18 credit graduate course for my supervisors cert. 18+12 = 30, but my new district is saying they only count credits earned after your Master's. I always thought any graduate credits past your BA counted as your "+ credits" number.

    Is this the norm??

Sorry for that situation and change. However, what your prior district did is not what I have seen in my experience. I was just hired by a public school, switched from private. I completed my Masters and TESOL endorsement concurrently, but they were separate programs. I had to complete practicum for both of them for different subject areas, so I decided to complete them at the same time while working part time. Anyways, they did not count the TESOL endorsement because it was completed concurrently with the MEd. Credits completed after the masters degree are counted, at the +15 step. That being said, I was grateful for what I got! In my previous position there was no financial benefit to continuing with graduate education.

I think you got really lucky with your first district and I wouldn't expect that to happen again. It's definitely the norm that credits can't count for the MA+ columns unless you actually have the MA first.

I agree that you got lucky with your first district. Your current district's explanation is exactly what I see here in NJ.
