What are some of your classroom rules? Did you decide as a class or did you have them posted before the kids came in? how many do you have?

This year I have had five rules posted in my room since day one. I used the power teaching rules this year because I loved that they had a picture that corrasponded to the written rule. We will continue to work on new procedures throughout the year, but the rules will be the same.

I made the rules up with the children on the first day. If someone is breaking the rules, I refer back to the chart. I think the normal rule is not to have more than 5 or so.
    I believe I have...

    -Listen to the teacher
    -Raise your hand
-Use polite words "please" and "thank you"
-Keep your hands and feet to yourself
    -Walk quietly in the hallway

I also use the rules for power teaching

    They are as follows:

    1: Follow Directions Quickly
    2. Raise hand for permission to speak
    3. Raise hand for permission to leave your seat
    4. Make smart choices
    5. Keep the dear teacher happy!

My school is doing PBS this year, so our school rules along with my classroom rules are:

    Be responsible
    Be respectful
    Be a learner

I have a BEE theme this year, to help! :)

I have the same as ladycajun...they cover every situation! I put them in my parent newsletter and I have had a few parents say they use the rules as well, just tweaked! We do hand movements with the rules and we practice them each day. It is now to the point that I can just hold up two fingers to a child (Rule 2:Raise your hand for permission to speak) and they will quickly cover their mouths and say "Oops"! I also practice Power Teaching

Thanks for all the great ideas!

I came up with 6 rules.
    1. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
    2. Listen to directions the 1st time. Say "ok" and do it right away!
    3. Be respectful and kind to everyone. Use kind words.
    4. Raise your hand and wait to be called on. Only 1 person talks at a time.
    5. Work hard everyday!
    6. Always try your best!
