I'm curious to see what some of the rules are that you all implement in your classrooms. I'm talking the rules that are posted and discussed the first week of class. I have rewritten mine several times because I keep second guessing the necessity of some of them. I don't really want to have more than five, and I'm having trouble...um...prioritizing I guess? Being that this will be my first year, I thought I'd get the opinions of teachers who have more experience with this age and more experience in general. Any must haves?

    :thanks:

My 3 expectations are that everyone is respectful, students follow directions the first time, and that students try their best.

With my grade 6 class last year, we made the rules together. At this point, students know the expectations, so it's helpful to have a few discussions as a class and work to create a list of rules. Then have everyone sign the list and post it in the class. That way when they break a rule you can say, "You agreed that it is important for everyone to be respectful. You are breaking your own rule right now."

I like the rule given in Teaching with Love and Logic:

You can do anything in this class, as long as it doesn't bother anyone else!
