I would like to make a simple list of rules for my classrom this year. Can you share some of the rules you use in your classroom? Thanks!
I have a poster with these...you could reword for K. I find they pretty much 'say it all'. Listen carefully Follow directions Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions. Respect school and personal property. Work and play safely.
Our school uses: Be Safe Be Responsible Be Respectful I found it covers all situations and easy to remember
I always have the kids make the list of rules on the first day. They will even refer to it more often themselves-Johnny, the rules say you have to follow directions.
I always make the rules with the kids. That way they feel ownership. Teacher Tom has an interesting take on rule making at http://teachertomsblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/rules-2010-11.html
My rules will be: We follow instructions the first time they are given. We keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves. We always try our best. I used these in grade one for a few years and they worked really well. I like that they are written in a postive way. I have also made rules with the kids but I find that its difficult to reign kids that young in and create a simple list. Might work with your class though
Rule number 1 - listen. Rule number 2 - share Rule number 3 - be kind with your words Rule number 4 -make Mrs. M. happy The golden rule - treat others the way you want to be treated. We repeat them together every day for the first month.
My Classroom Rules OUR CLASSROOM RULES 1. I raise my hand to speak 2. I stay quietly in my seats. 3. I am helpful, kind and fair. 4. I take turns and always share. 5. I always obey the very first time. 6. When the teacher uses her voice, I don't use mine. I especially love this set of rules because they rhyme. The children had them memorized within the first two weeks. I just have to remind them sometimes by saying "now what does our rule say about obeying, speaking, our seats, etc. They take right off quoting the rule. I will probably never change them. I have a huge sign made at the local sign shop to mount on the wall. I will try posting the picture. How do I add the picture from My Pictures?
Revamped rules from the Whole Brain Teaching Rule #1 Listen while your teacher is talking Rule #2 Follow directions quickly Rule #3 Raise your hand for permission to speak Rule #4 Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat Rule #5 Respect yourself, respect others, respect your school They recited these rules EVERY morning along with the hand gestures that went with them.
This is what we had as well. We talked about what it means to "be safe" - what does it look like? what do you do if you are safe? We repeat this often. When there is a behavior issue we would talk about if it was a safe/respectful/responsible choice. I did set up specific rules for specific situations. On the carpet rules: Sit criss cross hands in your lap listen to the person talking look at the person talking I always post them with pictures next to them.
Thanks for posting these czacza! I have been trying to revamp my rules. I just didn't really like the way that they are worded... But yours are awesome! :thumb:
