i was wondering if any of you are doing RTI with your kids. I have some kids who are still working on their letter sounds. I was just wondering what kinds of activities you are doing with them.

I do letter/sound drills during guided reading. I hold up letter cards and the children say the name of the letter and the sound(s) that they make. I also do some intensive vowel drills where I say a word and they hold up a card tent that shows what vowel sound they heard.

At my school, we break the kids into RTI groups and split them up among all the first grade teachers, instructional specialist, librarian, tutors, basically anyone who is available at the time. I happen to work with the lowest group. We did activities from fcrr.org at the beginning of the year and now we are doing Making Words. It seems to be helping and all the other kids are getting the benefit of working at their level too.
