Does anyone have a cute rhyme or chant they use for teaching rounding? My students are struggling with this concept. Thanks.

No song/chant, but they seem to respond to telling them to "high five for five or higher."

Mialbox magazine had one in the past year. I think I have it on sent. strips at school, I can check just PM me to remind me, and let me know if you want it. You can also go to their site and do a back issue check, then look it up if you or your library has them. It was in the primary edition.

What I did was have the kids color code a number grid. They colored 0-4 pink, 5-14 green, 15-24 yellow, etc. and circle the number you round to-so 10, 20, in that color. THat really helped.

I have used this poem before:

Find your number (they underline it)
Look right next door (draw arrow to number on right)
Four or lower, just ignore (underlined number stays the same)
Five or higher, add one more! (underlined number moves up one)

We were rounding decimals and one of my students taught this song, they really liked it.

    Find that number
    Circle that digit
    Look to the right
    Underline and get it
0-4, the number stays the same
5-9, add one is the game

You say each line, they repeat it.

There is one last line, but I can't remember it. By the expressions on their faces they thought it was kind of corny.

    Hope it helps.
