Well, this is laughable. I may have to go into my interview high on pain killers after trying to get an interview all summer. Oh, my.

Should I ask to reschedule? She's interviewing Mon. and Tues.

No, if you reschedule you may not get an opportunity to interview at all.

    Reschedule the root canal!

I had knee surgery scheduled for last Thursday. I cancelled bc I felt like I still had time to get a teaching job. Lucky me, I ended up w/ an interview that Friday and was hired Monday!

    Good luck!

I agree with rescheduling the root canal, if you can. The root canal WILL happen, it's the interview that may not happen. You need to be able to sell yourself and it may be difficult if you are in pain/high on meds/uncomfortable/not able to think clearly.

Any advice for a 1st year Special Ed Teacher????

I am a first year 5th grade special ed resource/inclusion teacher...I am PETRIFIED to say the least! Any suggestions on how to set up workspace, what basic things I may need. Effective rules/procedures to implement when I happen to be in my own classroom (which I am not sure will be very often) , etc...Any suggestions on an effective way to keep abreast of all that is required for documentation, etc... I want to do a great job, but my mind nis running in a million circles going absolutely nowhere...I'm STRESSED and school hasn't srated yet. HELP!

Do you have to take pain killers? I had two root canals in one day and got by on regular ibuprofen.

    Otherwise, reschedule the dentist appointment.

We'll be happy to help you but you need to start a new post. Go to General Education OR special education and then click on post new topic. :)

Thanks, everyone :) Actually, I woke up this morning and the pain has subsided, so if this continues, I'll be ok to reschedule the root canal. Funny, our refrigerator which quit cooling Friday night, has now turned back on, too. The freezer is really cold this morning. All of our perishables are in three coolers on the kitchen floor. So, now I can't decide whether to call the electrician and cancel the refrigerator repair man for tomorrow or not. I'm assuming it's a short in the electrical system. Oh, yes, and our Subaru we had to have towed Friday because the battery went dead and my husband probably shorted out the electrical system in the car when he tried to jump it. So, it's still in the shop.

Now, see, everyone just count your blessings that you aren't me :) right now. Actually, I'm still grateful for the interview and that the refrigerator cut back on.

Nu, I'll try to find your thread and comment there :)

Hey... i'm going to take the opposite point of view. I say....go for it!

I had a screening phone interview once where the principal just called out of the blue and wanted to pre-interview you (INSTANTLY). I had JUST gotten home-just walked in the door after spending the whole day moving my daughter out of her dorm and then driving for 5 hours.

My mind was SHOT! I told the principal that, but also said I would try to answer her questions.

I would answer to the best of my ability...but then end with - "my mind is fried, I can't think of more. i KNOW I would think of more given a normal day...but that's all I can come up with right now."

And i got the interview! It must have come across like...if she can answer this well when she's exhausted-she's probably pretty danged good when she's alert!

    ***

On anther note. it's rather late to pull out now (though I know things came up rather recently). Interviews -ESPECIALLY at this late hour- wait for NO man. If you can't make it ...you lose.

    your choice!

Thanks McKenna. Yes, I'll be there Tues. morning "Lord willing and the creek don't rise." Wild horses couldn't keep me away. It's with a Montessori school and while I don't know much about M. schools, I'm reading up on how they operate and love what I've read so far. Just wish I could talk to someone who has experience with Montessori school who could help me to get an idea of how to modify a lessonplan for the interview :)

If you're going to one of the root canal specialists, they are really not such a big deal anymore. Not much pain and they don't take that long. I taught the next day and only needed advil. Hopefully, it will be the same for you. Besides, if you reschedule the root canal, it may be difficult since you'll have a teaching job. good luck!

I agree with Maryhf. I was so worked up about having a root canal and the supposed pain. I was fine. I didn't even use any advil, motrin, or painkiller. My mouth was a little tender, no swelling, and not enough pain to have noticed much. I don't think it's like the root canal of old. Either way...GOOD LUCK!!!

    good luck!!!!!

I was in a similar situation. The morning of my gum grafting surgery, I get a call from the principal from my dream school to come in for an interview that day. I explained my situation and he was understanding but clearly wanted to interview all the candidates within the two days. So I went in the next day, his last interview- I certainly wasn't going to miss this opportunity!

I had my business suit on, looked great from the neck down. Neck up, I was a mess. lol. One side of my face was ridiculously swollen, i had difficulty speaking, and was in pain (decided against the painkillers, didn't want to be loopy). There were moments during the interview I tasted blood and prayed that i didn't rip open a stitch but i remained focused and determined. Through all that, I nailed my interview(and i am HORRIBLE at interviews too) and he even said that he was very impressed with my answers and was given the job on the spot! :D

So i'll be thinking of you tuesday and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS, everyone!!!! The pain has subsided enough now that I won't try to have the root canal today. Yes! And, hopefully won't have to take pain killers so I can read up on Montessori schools so I can sound intelligent at the interview. I would be working with 7 students....oh, yeah :) I'm soooooo jazzed. I assume it is all inclusive.
