Room Set Up

    As many of us are headed back to our schools to prepare for another year, I am curious how long it takes you to set up your rooms?

    At my school, we have to box everything up and take everything down off the walls. It usually takes me a good week to get everything how I want it, but that usually involves a fair amount of chit chat with fellow teachers. If I really focus, I can get it done in 2-3 days working about 6 hours a day. I was in my building today, the second day we were allowed back in, and noticed a teacher down the hall from me had her room already picture perfect, down to a complete hallway set up with flowers on a desk outside her room. I was impressed!

    It always takes me a long time to do my room. I'm not an organized person normally, but my class always has to be perfect. This year I painted a mural on the wall that took me about 10 hours. And it's not really perfect, but I was just... done. You know? Haha. I worked on my room for about a week and it's finally done. We don't go back to school until the 9th of August, but I'll be in Vegas the week before that, so I wanted it to all be finished ASAP.

    I did six hours on Saturday, about 8 hours on Tuesday, and 2-3 hours each on Wednesday to today. I'm finished.

    I'd say about 2 days. I didn't have to take everything down, but the furniture is a mess. I usually prefer to work a few hours here and there with plenty of chit-chat. :)

    I'm so envious of you guys! I've been making/doing things to prepare for setting up my room. However, we don't get access to our room until sometime after we come back for PD August 5. Also, since we are building onto my school and third and fourth grade teachers are being moved to the new classrooms they have been building all summer, lord knows it'll be down to the wire before we gain access to our rooms. Last year was a complete remodel of the building, and we only got one day to prep our rooms (the day before the kids came back). I'm hoping for a few days...fingers crossed!

    I've done 6 hours each day this past week - 30 in all so far. I may have the opportunity to put an hour or so in next week, but that's it, due to a PD class. I'll have my grandson the following weekend, so that's out, then I have 3 days the following week. We start back August 8. Ugh - all I've been able to do is paint & fabric - haven't done any organizing yet.

    It takes me about 2 days, 4 -5 hours each if I don't start gabbing with anyone. All my furniture is already in place as I leave a detailed map and the custodians place it back after waxing the floor, cleaning the rugs and furniture. Before I leave in June I run off my first week's work and have my hall bulletin board ready to go. I haven't any bulletin boards in my room, just a wall of windows, a wall of cubbies, one wall of my smart board and two white boards, and a back wall of counter, cabinets and the bathroom door.

    I set my current room up in 4 days, roughly 5-6 hours each day. However, I spent a considerable amount of time putting stuff together at home for my classroom.

    We are moving into a brand new school, so the room is a blank slate. I'm guessing it will take at least a week to set up, which is thankfully what we have! My stuff is all in boxes in one of the school's storage units and my apartment. It's going to be a lot of work but it'll be fun!! We don't go back until after Labor Day, though, so I still have some time before room set up.

    Like you, we have to pack everything up before we leave for the summer. Getting my room ready again for the fall takes however much time I have. :lol: I can do it in a few hours if I have to. I can take up to a week or more if I have that kind of time. It's a little easier for me since I'm high school, I think.

    I could do it in about 6 hours if I needed to. I was able to leave my bulletin board up and I restocked workbooks before I left, so really I just have to hang up my posters, set up my word wall, create their supply boxes and pull everything out of the cabinets.

    Most of my prep week will be spent on sneakily making thousands and thousands of copies before they program in our limit codes. :D

    If I work and don't let myself get distracted, I could do it in about four hours. I don't have to set up centers, decorate in a new theme or anything like that. I have to clean (because it will be dusty!) arrange the furniture (which always takes two people because my tables are so heavy) and put names on desks.

    I'm also moving to a brand new building, so everything is at home with me. If we're lucky, we'll have occupancy of the building a few days before school starts, so I'm hoping that I'll have 2 days. This will definitely be a year for "less is more" :lol:.

    We don't have to pack up our rooms, so how long it takes usually depends on how much I want to change. This year I want to move my desk across the room so that requires me moving some bookshelves and file cabinets. After 11 years of teaching I finally told my husband he can take a day off from work and come help me set up. He agreed to half a day. I'll spend more time cleaning and organizing supplies. I am hoping 3-4 days.

    I accepted a position at a new school this year. Summer school just finished up yesterday, so I have to wait until the custodians clean and wax the floors before I'm allowed in. I have a workshop all next week, so I'll have one week after that to work on setting up before pre-planning starts. I'm planning to spend 3-4 hours each day working in there.. Hopefully that's enough!

    I miss setting up my classroom. This summer it took me all of June and 50% of July to finish cleaning out my classroom, de clutter, and move into my new office.

    Us, too. I did leave a diagram on the board for the custodians to set my room up after they wax the floors. I'm hoping my desk will be in its new spot when I arrive.

    I usually take 3-4 days to set up and get organized for the first week of school.

    Usually about 2 days. We have to pack our stuff into stationary furniture or into our rolling cabinet, empty our desk completely. Supposed to take everything off the bulletin boards, but often I left (or put up new) paper on the boards to jump start the preparation.

    This year I moved to a new room, which is set up differently from my old one. I had to pack EVERYTHING, including almost 400 books for my class library in addition to the many other professional books, text books, etc. I've spent days setting it up, cleaning (the walls were dirty!), unpacking, and getting a feel for how it will all work out. Have a few things left to do - contact paper on old tables to brighten them up, new skirts for the new tables, copies for the first couple of weeks of school, etc. It has been exhausting this year. Usually it is more fun.

    Ugh...I can't imagine having to box everything and taking things off the wall EACH June. That would drive me bonkers!

    However, since I moved this year, I will be starting from scratch. I anticipate it will take me a few days.

    We're at a negotiations impasse. I'll go in on the first contracted staff day and work on my room between meetings. :(
