I am currently in a small room (20x23) that has two doors. I can't block the second door because it is considered to be a fire exit. It is truly a pain to not be able to use that space. I have no window. Some rooms are opening up next year, and I am thinking of moving. Would you trade a slightly larger room for a smaller room with a window? The other rooms are a little smaller (maybe 18X20), but they don't have two doors.

What do you teach? Would your students still fit in it, or would it make teaching significantly more difficult?

I'd trade almost anything for a window, I couldn't stand not to have one. I've been in a classroom without one before and found it very depressing.

I would certainly go with a smaller room with a window. My classrooms are typically small, although I teach elementary and only have 12 students and an aide. With that said, I can help you with designing the new layout.

I teach 5th grade. I typically have between 16-20 (occasionally 23) students. It is really tight.

I would struggle without a window....I need a little natural sunlgiht to compete with those fluorescents. Further, I often think about how if I had to escape my building in an emergency and my door was somehow blocked/unsafe to use, I would be able to bust out the windows. Obviously without windows, this couldn't be possible.

Can you open up either of your current doors to the outside to let in sunlight and fresh air when you want?
