Reading critically? Fact checking? Where's Ron Burgundy when you need him? http://www.buzzfeed.com/mikehayes/local-news-broadcast-airs-truly-unfortunate-report-on-asiana
Gives new meaning to the term "talking heads"... I love how the "apology" still insists that an NTSB official "confirmed" the names. Really...and what was the "official's" name? Elmer Fudd?
Maybe Bart Simpson works for the NTSB. I think this race to get the news first makes journalists blind today. This is one in many recent blunders where inaccurate news is presented. I don't think apologizing after the fact is enough-there has to be more attention being paid.
Did the anchor not realize exactly what she was saying? I mean, as soon as I read them, I knew they couldn't be real...
Looking more at this site, it looks like it could all be a joke, like The Onion (which I love). Some of the other headline news is: Democratic Senator's Home Is Lingerie Company Headquarters High School Teacher Turned Democratic Congressman Trolls Republicans With Red Pen Eliot Spitzer Is Nothing Like Anthony Weiner The Obama Administration Has Stopped Pretending They're Not Worried About Edward Snowden
Wow! They looked like satirical headlines to me. So, if this is real, then it´s even more appaling. The names are so obviously not real that I can´t believe the anchor wouldn´t have realized that, or that those names could have been confirmed as having been the correct and real names.
Well, to be fair to them, that article does show that the NTSB admitted that the error came from them. A "summer intern" sent out the confirmation. Probably some college student thinking he was being funny. They still should have slowed down enough to make sure it wasn't a joke, but at least it didn't originate with them.
Seriously! Then I ran into something online lastnight that said, ¨Can you tell the difference between satirical news and real news?¨ I guess not!!!!! Some of the real stories are so crazy.
I get the feeling that somewhere near Washington DC, there is a former intern currently sitting in his parent's basement looking at community college websites.
Anti defamation lawsuit? Seriously? They could do much for their reputation by better training their pilots.
I heard them play it on the radio this morning. The woman sounded so serious when she said the names!
My initial thought was she was so concentrating on not making the third name sound like a curse word that she just didn't notice the others.
They really got the names from the National Transportation Safety Board: NTSB. An intern at NTSB thought he/she would be funny ...... not thinking that in the hast to report no one would proof read it what is really funny/odd is the airline was going to sue the TV station over it.... I think they have to worry about the hand basket they are in and how hot it is getting
