    Hi there...

Okay, today is the day! To be specific...at 1:30 Pacific Time ( at Cypress, California)!

Please pray for me and all the others who are taking it today.

I have followed all the guidelines posted on this site when I asked earlier about what to do and how to study.

Oh, I hope I do well. I'm a bit nervous about it all!

Thank you to all who sent helpful ideas. I really appreciate your generosity and thoughts!

    Hugs,
    Mom of 4

    TeacherGroupie,

Honestly, it was challenging, more so than I thought it would be.

Here's my attitude about it today- If I didn't pass, well, I'll be better off for the experience and I will be back at it in August. I'll be back at it until I pass it! However long it takes!

BTW, another studnent at the test site mentioned that there is an alternative mode of assessment for the RICA - video assessment. Have you known anyone to do this? What do you think of this option?

Again, thank you. You are a gift from above to all of us trying to make it out there!

Last I heard, more people by percentage were passing the pencil-and-paper version than the video assessment.

    Have you got study buddies?

Sorry, Mom of 4, my bad: I should've specified that I was asking kymmepop. (You, I remember, and distinctly.)

kymmepop~ I went to the Rica site and printed off the information for their sample test. I studied the information that was contained in those questions. I found that the test followed the sample questions very closely.

    Good Luck

Hey, I tested for the RICA at the Cypress site today, too! We probably crossed paths!

The questions seemed straight forward enough, but then I noticed that I had a stretch of answers that were all A's. That worried me! I went back to double--then triple--check, but they seemed like the right answers!

The constructed response questions were ok, too, but I worried that I ended up writing unnecessary things (like more than the required number of strategies, etc.) and jumbled my answers. I also wished I was more clear about how I would teach the strategy.

I forgot to mention graphic organizers for one response and I can just kick myself because the prep course teacher insisted we use it. But I was very nervous during the test, worrying about time, etc.

ugh. Now all I can do is hope and pray.

P.S. Oh, wait. I see that you were talking about a previous RICA test. I just tested 8/12.

If you checked your answers but didn't change any without knowing why you should, you probably did fine there. Do bear in mind that most teacher tests don't require perfection.

I hope you'll have gotten a good, relaxing meal afterward...

Thanks, Teachergroupie. I did splurge with a yummy Thai dinner! LOL.

I heard that they put 10 experimental questions on the RICA that were not being scored so I hope those questions were in the stretch of same answers.

What is the passing requirement anyway?

81 out of 120 possible points. (Atypically, there isn't a scoring scale: these are raw points. There are 60 points possible from the 60 scored multiple choice items, 36 points possible from the four shorter answer questions, and 24 points available for the case study.
