I'm looking for the book or website that I need to help me make next year the best ever! I teach a 2.5 hour preschool for 3-5 year olds. I want to spend the summer, reading and learning and prepping. So what resource do I need??

What is your education/experience. That will influence the type of resource that I recommend.

I commend you for wanting to prepare and work hard but I agree with Blue - we need more information.

What is your school's philosophy or approach? Are you play-based, academic, emergent, Montessori, Reggio, ?????? What are your strengths or weaknesses? What, specifically, do you want to learn?

We could talk about so many things:
    -social and emotional development
    -gross or fine motor skills
    -art
    -math
    -literacy
-.......so many things which all have different resources

Ask away - we just need more info.

I have a Bachelor of Education, as well as half of my early childhood education degree. I have been working at the preschool for 3 years now. The program is a play-based one. We do the usual centres, circle time, arts/crafts, and gross motor. I'm just looking for new ideas to improve. I haven't ever really planned the curriculum before. I like the idea of emergent curriculum though. I have 16 kids from ages 3-5. One of my programs is just 4-5 year olds with a focus on kindergarten preparation. I did my BEd practicum in kindergarten so I know a bit about that. I guess I'm looking for some math and literacy stuff as well.
    Thanks!

These are my favorite websites lately. I am working to create a Reggio-inspired, play-based, process-oriented, connecting to nature and science, type of environment which influences my choices.

    FAVORITE WEBSITES
Teacher Tom – play-based, very innovative, lots of outdoor play

Make Learning Fun – thematic – art ideas, center ideas, worksheets which I don’t use but turn into games. Anyway, a good site to use if you are stuck for ideas.

Childhood 101 – A multitude of play-based ideas from a variety of sources. She also has a blog.

I would suggest reading about Approaches to Learning and its importance to ECE and incorporating nature into the curriculum; getting kids outdoors.

I love the websites that another poster suggested. They are very inspiring!
