So, I turned in my resignation letter a few days ago. When I went over to tell a close co-worker of mine, she goes "Oh I heard! I saw your letter!!" I was like "Huh?" She said the principal brought the letter to her to read  . Situation #2 I went to tell another staff member, and he says "Oh I read it!! My face dropped when I read it!" So he saw it too.

Are principals free to go around showing your resignation letter. I guess since it's addressed to them, they could basically do what they wanted with it. But it just screams unprofessional to me.

What do you all think? Is this right???

I think that it is very unprofessional. Not sure if they can do this but I don't think that they should.

I worked in a daycare centre once where resignation letters were posted on a bulletin board for parents to read. I guess it was the director's way of communicating staff changes with the families. I never really thought about it until I read this post.... yeah, I wouldn't want my resignation letter shared.

Wow - I can't think of a reason in the world why your P would need to share the actual letter with the staff!! Very unprofessional!!

Hopefully it was a "standard" resignation letter without too much information. Goodness, that's unprofessional and just outright stupid.

I certainly would consider a resignation letter part of an official, private portfolio. Maybe it's a good idea you are getting out of there. Slightly wacko admin!

While I doubt it's illegal to show your letter to everyone, I agree that was so, so, so wrong and unprofessional.

That's awful. Do you need a letter of recommendation from this wacko? If not, I might be inclined to mention to him that several people said they'd seen my letter.
