Out of morbid curiosity, if you happen to write your report card comments first in a document before copying it over, what's your approximate word count that you end up writing each semester/trimester/quarter? It always reminds me of how much time and effort they take, even if it seems like one "small" blurb for each child!

I do mine in our report card program, but, for curiousity, just put them into a Word document. I'm probably around 750 words/student--around 150 words each for Mathematics, English, and Learning Skills and then shorter comments, between 50 and 100 words each, for the other subjects.

Wow - that must take you forever! We have a 1,500 character (including spaces) limit, so mine tend to be about 200-250 words per student (I always have to pare my words down and use the word count button every 5 seconds :))

They probably take me about 25-30 hours once my grading is done and grades are calculated. We only do these reports twice a year, at the end of January and at the end of June; there's a less-detailed progress report in late November.

About 150 words per core subject (English, Mathematics, Religion) and then maybe 150-200 words for a general comment about the student.

    So 600 words per kid.

We have to write our comments short enough so both quarter progress report and report card comments will fit on the one page report card. That means I am limited to about two sentences per child. I write one positive comment and one comment addressing needed improvement or goals.
