Just a heads up for some of you teachers. So I overheard a few students talk about using Remind 101 to cheat. Basically a student in 1st period would make a Remind 101 account, and anyone of his friends (or friend's friend who also has the same teacher) can register to receive the messages. First student would take a quiz, and after class, easily send out a Remind 101 text to everyone what the answers are. Sure students can just do it the old text message way, but this Remind 101 way makes it ridiculously easy for ANYONE to be in on the loop. To be honest, I never thought that students would wise up to use it this way.
I wonder if you could spoof them into logging into a fake Remind 101 account and text them the wrong answers.
Would be hilarious to hack into the master account and send off the wrong answers. Since they're high school kids, I think with some detective work, one can probably figure out their pw.
My students aren't that clever so I don't think I need to worry about that. My school is all indoors and the cell reception SUCKS. They normally write the answers on the desk (even if they are wrong).
I use different software to generate my quizzes and tests so it's easy to have 5/6 (or more) versions of a test. sometimes I don't put the test version on it. a very few times I'll have different test or quiz id's on the paper but actually have only one test. Sometimes each kid will have their own test id. Just different stuff each and every time that's easy to do but my kids don't bother to cheat anymore (on test and quizzes anyway). I don't think my kids know of Remind 1010 but if they did, I'd hear about it. Then each period would have different versions. It's an arms race out there.
They'll just find new ways to cheat. You can only do so much to prevent it. They'll eventually learn that cheating won't get get them as far as they think.
