Want to sent a text to your students, but don't want them to know your personal #? Here's an app you may want to try. The thing w/ this though is that no one can reply to you. This is for making outgoing annoucements only (i.e. Everyone remember to read pages 35-75 of your book for Friday's test!)

For those who've tried it, how is it?

I've used it in an elementary setting. I don't know if anyone relied on it or not, but I liked that it covered myself communication wise (since we all know that newsletters aren't always read, nor are agendas always checked.)

I could see it being extremely useful in a secondary setting.

Our principal uses it for school announcements.
Our counselor uses it for scholarship deadlines, etc.

I use the built in version of the same type of tool in Canvas.

It's great except when parents are signed up with more than one teacher and thus receive more than one reminder for the same event...

Our school uses for school wide announcements, e.g. test dates, family nights, weather delays.

I use it with my 6th graders (mostly a few parents) and my 8th graders (most of whom have their own phone, so it goes right to them). LOVE IT! I wish I could force everyone to sign up for it, so all my students would get the messages I send out, but... oh well! :) I try to reach them with as many ways as I can. This is just another way to remind them of upcoming things.

I wanted to try Remind 101 this year, but our district communication and social media policy forbids it (as in, it is listed by name in the guidelines as something we are not allowed to use). Makes no sense whatsoever to me, but it is what it is I guess.
