..that homeschooled kid with the goof for a teacher??:D

I thought I'd let you all know how Jeannie's been, since I haven't stopped in for awhile.

She's in 7th grade now. She's doing well. Friday she'll be 12! Weren't we just starting pre-k last week?!

She's a Cadette Girl Scout now, and just earned her Silver Award Pin by hosting a clothing giveaway at our church yesterday. Over the summer, she and I sought clothing and house ware donations and door prize donations. She created flyers and asked businesses to post them. She sought permission from our town police and the town office to hang flyers at homes near us. She and I went through donated clothes all summer. Friday, we set them up on tables in our church fellowship hall, along with other donated items. We used gift cards donated by grocery stores to get hot dogs and other refreshments for folks to nosh after they 'shopped'. Everything was completely free to the public, including lunch. I liked how she was forced to communicate so much, because she can be very timid. It was a very worthy project, and everyone who came had very nice things to say about the event.

As for me, I know I've got to do something with my life, but have no idea what. Now that Jeannie's Silver project isn't taking over my life, I'll have time to really think of what to do. Nothing has really caught my interest, if that makes any sense. I do miss teaching very much, but I'm not sure I'm cut out for a classroom setting.

Good to see everyone! Anyone have an 'Oranjello' in their class this year??

    Nice, Becky!

If you have leftover clothing, you could arrange for the Red Cross or other similar organization come pick up.

What a great project! I wish more of our students would get involved in projects like this. I can't believe Jeannie is almost 12 already!

What a great project, you worked hard to give her the very best.

Have you considered tutoring, especially as a resource for homeschoolers?

    You can't believe she's 12..?
I ran into a picture of 3 year old Jeannie and me the other day, where I was teaching her the Pledge. That honestly feels like it was yesterday.

I tried applying to our local literacy council, but their training started when Jeannie's school ended for the summer.

It's great to hear how well Jeannie is doing. You'll find the right thing to get involved in, don't worry, Becky.
