I recently went to my college's career services center to get some help with my resume. They recommended (actually, they told me I was GOING TO do this) that I not put my references on my resume, but include a separate page with my references, with a header on the top like my resume has. Maybe I'm semi-ignorant on resumes, or just out of the loop, but I haven't heard of this. Do any of you do this? Do you print it on resume paper? Do you include it with the attachments on an online application? Much thanks!
I always had a separate page for references. This way you could list all the needed information for each reference. I always printed it on resume paper and I would include it as an attachment to an online application.
I've never mentioned my references in my resume because it seems redundant - I just enclose my letters in my cover packet anyway!
This is what I do too. All of my reference's contact info is on their letter. When you fill out an application for the school, it's also usually an entire page in the application so they're getting the information there as well.
On my resume under references it says Excellent references available upon request. and I have them on a Separate sheet. ...I don't use resume paper for that, actually I don't use resume paper at all anymore, when you're sending out 200 applications a year, it got too expensive.
I think I read somehwere recently that "References available upon request" was discouraged. One, it takes up valuable room on your resume or adds clutter where it's not needed. Two, employers will assume that you are able to provide references and will be sure to request them if you get that far in the hiring process. It's not as though if you leave that off they'll think twice before proceeding with references. I make sure to include contact information on a separate sheet and attach this to my resume. Also, make sure you have a wealth of contact info including numbers that your references can be reached at over the summer.
References are not required with your resume. If the people want you, they will ask for references, BUT if it's for a teaching position, SOMETIMES having a known name in the school district that you are applying for is a PLUS, because they can call that person up right away to find out more about you. This was info from one of our teachers @ our Alternative Cert school. Good luck, Rebel1
It is assumed you have references, so, no need to mention it on a resume. Include all contact information of your references on a separate page.
I have a references sheet that matches my resume's header. When I send out my resume and cover letter I do not include it, however when I interviewed and brought a copy of my resume I gave them the references sheet as well. All of the information is also included in the application itself for every district I've applied to but I think a nice clean sheet looks nice for the interview.

I would ask one of your education professors to look over your resume. most have been principals and will have better ideas for you than the career services at your college.
