I am looking for the perfect Red Pen...any suggestions. Yes, I know I mean I grade mostly in red and use X's to mark things wrong.

I like the Pilot clicky ones that have the wetter ink. I don't really know how else to describe them, I suppose.

Oh, I also like the Pentel ones with the regular ink. They have lids (not clicky) and the casing is clear crystal.

Oh, and the Pilot ones tend to get used up faster because of the wet ink, so you should plan to buy several at a time.

You are not allowed to use red? I would have to quiz, lol.

I love the Pentel pens that Cassie suggested. They write smoothly and consistently (as in no globs). They also have both medium and fine tip options.

I really don't like the Pilot gel-type pens. They seem to run out of ink all the time! Plus, they are a little "bold" for my use. Most of the time when I am grading I write comments about what the student did right or wrong, and it takes up too much room when the ink makes such a thick line! But if you just want to write a check or an X, then they might be the way to go.

I right comments all the time, especially on Test and Essay questions. I think I will have to look into those Pentels.

    I love RSVP pens myself.

As for red ink, I read a study that students pay more attention to it if it's in red. Funny thing to study, but obviously it's controversial. I never really paid attention to ink color one way or the other, and had no negative affiliations.

Frankly, they can come out with as many studies as they want and I will continue to grade in RED. I love RED, red is the color of awarness and gets my kids attentions. In my mind a bad grade looks in red, green, pink, yellow, purple, organge, ranbow, highlighter, etc.

I agree . If it is in black or blue ink, they won't see what they missed. If red upsets them so much , they should study, perhaps.

I like the Pilot ones, too. They are a bit wet so you can't brush your hand across them, but that's fine. They write smoothly. I usually put comments on sticky notes.

I like the uni-ball pens. I usually get a mulit-colored pack...there is a really nice magenta-red that is my fav.

I've heard green is the color of awareness before.

I use the Paper Mate pens that are kind of like really thin markers.

Green is the color of awarness, I don't think so. Think about it all road signs we need to be aware of our red (stop, yield, do not enter, and wrong way signts).

My favourite pens are Papermate Xtend. They write smoothly, have a comfy grip and are just the right size for my hand. They come in lots of colours (for those who love red and those who don't!)

I'm kind of a pen junkie. Love to try new ones.

I love the RSVP ones, they write nicely.

My new love is the PaperMate Profile. I buy a pack or two on each trip to Staples so I'll never run out. They are ball points, but with a little thicker ball.

I love fine-point gel pens. I haven't really seen any particular brand that is better than any other, but the red-inked gel pens definitely leave a more easily visible mark than just the standard ball-point red ink pen. I like using the gel pens because I want my notes to be seen.

I bet some liberal so n so did a study that they were paid for with our money to say red was bad.
I have found without red the kids do not take the corrections seriously

I think the whole red pen theory is garbage. If for the past 100 years we were marking papers in green then green would be the taboo color right now. I use what ever I grab and often it happens to be red.

My favorite is the Signo pen from Uniball. I have it in every color and use it to write everything! Walmart has them in the pen section and they have them up by the registers sometimes. I usually use the purple to grade :)

green is considered to be an attention getter b/c it is the color of money. I copy all of my "must reads" on green paper in the hopes that parents stop for a moment and read it!
