When I was taking pictures in my classroom yesterday, I realized I've had it up to here with my camera. The picture quality is poor, takes forever to take a photo, and I've never figured out to use it properly after three years.

So I want to purchase a new one this summer. I think my maxium budget is 300.00. I would like for it to be compact, I can fit the case in my purse, but still take good pictures. I hardly took any pics at space camp because it was so slow!
    :thanks:

This one can be perfect for you:

    Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W120MDG/P

It's 199 on their website (Sonystyle.com) but you might find a better deal at another store.

Mine is not compact but it takes fantastic pictures. It is a Fuji s5000. I love it! I paid $500 for it a few years ago but there are still new ones out there that are now under $300.

I had a canon powershot and LOVED it. But the shutter button came off and bestbuy couldn't fix it. Then I had to get the awful cybershot to replace it. I hate the silly thing. It seriously took forever to take my class' picture for my parent helper gift! It wouldn't focus and the flash would't come on.

I'll probably get another canon. I loved my old one.

Thanks so much for your recommendations!

cMcD, I have your Canon Powershot (but one version higher than that). SD700 I believe. I loooove my canon!! Before that I had an S400 and it took amazing pictures.

I would love a DSLR but it's soooo expensive!! Right now I have a ton of money with taxes and our big summer paycheck and I want to spend and this camera keep looking better and better! I'm afraid I won't know how to use it correctly, or it will be too big and bulky to take places.

For Mother's Day my daugther got me a Kodak EasyShare M893 IS. It has 8.1 mp and 3x zoom. My kids call it the camera for dummies..mom did not want anything complicated. It is very easy to use and has the large screen on the back to make it easier to see what your subject, plus it has a really neat auto focus. They are available at Target, Best Buy, etc. They run around $160 and do not come with a memory card. Anyhow, this camera is so easy to use and is about the size of a deck of cards. Love mine!

Ms. G., can you upgrade it to add memory card?

can you take these cameras on planes, thru airport x=ray, and it doesn't affect them?

I just bought a Canon Powershot SD 750 and I love love love it. I also have a Nikon D50 SLR, and I was nervous to buy a point and shoot, but the Canon is so good! I highly recommend it. You can't go wrong with a canon, they really know what they are doing when it comes to point and shoots.
