Every two years, teachers with my school board are given access to a professional development fund to attend conferences ($800). I've been to ASCD's & Reading Recovery's annual convention, regional conferences for the IRA and a few small-time workshops with BER. I've found some of the sessions at these conferences to be decent but never have I come away from one say, "that was worth every minute".

Is there anyone out there that can recommend a "don't miss this conference" type of conference? I get to go to one this year so I'm trying to find something worthwhile. Posting links to the organization would be helpful if you don't mind.

    Thanks in advance. :D

I saw Dan Hodgins, who talks about how boys learn somewhat differently than girls. He was the most amazing speaker I've seen. Plus veteran teachers who had been teaching forever (20 or so years) said the same. Though the speech I saw was geared towards Pre-K. So I don't know if it would help you. All good teachers can adapt/modify though right? He seems to talk mostly at Nayce conferences-- definetly pre-k centered.

I have been to a technology conference in Florida, but I am sure they are elsewhere. I'd look up my greatest teaching interest online for a workshop near me if I were you. Technology was displayed, and we were able to choose any 6 workshops we wanted to attend. One was by Lynell Burmark; she was fabulous. It was called FETC (Florida Educational Technology Conference). :)
