Our reading classes (middle school level) are entirely based on novels. I have been creating a lot of my own units this year, but would really love some fresh ideas. We are just about to start 2nd semester, and I would like to shake things up a bit. I feel like I'm getting into a rut. Does anyone have any ideas they could share?

You could try reader's workshop for a short period of time, shared reading of a novel, buddy reading...

Or are you looking for projects or other activities to complete with a novel?

I teach math so I would suggest getting some page-turners. Don't make a kid read something boring.
