    Hi,
I'm a ASD PreK teacher, but I'm teaching Saturday school to 5th graders. I teach in Florida, so the point of Saturday school is basically to get the students ready for the FCAT. We have split up each grade level into subjects and I am teaching reading. All my materials are laid out for me each week, so basically my question is just can you help me come up with some fun games that I can use as a reward for my students? These need to be fairly quick (10-15 min rewards) because the way Saturday school is set up is that we have 45 minutes with each group of students and they rotate through each subject.

Any help/suggestions for rewards would be appreciated! I'm so used to my 3 and 4 year olds who are happy with stickers and high fives :p

Sorry not a reading teacher, but I think you should play hangman with some good vocabulary words.

My kids are quite happy with high fives and some of them will do anything for a sticker!

I teach HS and middle school, but my readign group is at a fifth grade level and mentally they are there or younger.

One game they like playing is to try to come up with a word for every letter of the alphabet. Sometimes we have themes. So if it was MLK, it might be like

    A...ambition
    B...birmingham
    C...civil rights
    etc. We do it verbally.

Alternately, you can start the next work with the letter that the former word ends with for example:

    apple
    elephent
    trace
    eraser
    recess
    sink
    kiss
    (etc)

I also got these reading spinners from Creative Teaching Press that have story questions on them (comprehension). They love them!
