I just attended Maine's Read First Conference! It was very informative. I loved it. The best speaker was Jo Robinson from WA state. If any of you have a chance to see her speak, make sure you go.

I was teaching at a Reading First school and Jo Robinson was contracted to come into our district to the Reading First Schools as a consultant. I have heard mixed reviews. She is apparently very blunt and turned off some teachers -- others LOVED her and said her ideas were fabulous. I was out the day she was around so I haven't met her. I am also interested in what she spoke about at the conference.

The two topics were Maximizing Classroom instruction and the second was a motivational speech. She was the closing note speaker. The Speech title was Together, We Can Do It.
I only heard the end of the Maximizing speech and the whole closing note speech. I really enjoyed it.
