I had to go to 3 different locations. I was on my way from Wendy's to my sister's house. In that span of time, here's what I captured. First rainbow I thought that would be it. As I'm driving I see it (or another) again. I pull into that parking lot and realize that it's two rainbows. I then start having trouble focusing the camera (I need to take classes). Then the faintest one disappears, and within seconds the primary one began to disappear starting at the upper left hand corner. (I was just so surprised at seeing a disappearing rainbow I couldn't even attempt the take the photo. Maybe next time. Yeah right.) Also, looking in the upper left hand corner (when I got home) I could see that there were some extra colors. It's faint, but you can see the extra arcs. I thought it was my bad photography skills. I did some reading and turns out it's called a supernumerary rainbow. It's rare and can't be explained by standard geometric optics. Thomas Young in the 1800s was able to explain. I just never knew that extra colors could ever be present on the rainbow. This will be a great spin on our Light and Optics lessons. After going to wiki and seeing the photo in which they increased the contrast to help make the extra arcs present here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Supernumerary_rainbow_03_contrast.jpg I did the same for my photo. Here's my increased contrast: You can see the additional arcs. After the rainbows disappeared I continued on to my sister's house, and see another one. And even after all of that, as I continued to go on to my sister's house the lightning struck inches away from the rainbow. It almost went right through it. (No photo of that, I wish)
I love rainbows! Love them! Very neat. Thanks for posting. The last photo is so pretty with the reflection in the pond.
How breathtakingly beautiful!!! Kudos to you for being smart enough to take the pictures. AND to do the research to find out what it was you saw! Talk about being a "lifelong learner"!!!
I love rainbows! I've seen a couple of double ones, and they're neat. I usually don't have my good camera, so I get crappy cell phone pictures. Very pretty!
Thanks so much everyone! :thanks: cza I saw some pics of those types online and would love to see them in person. Alice, I heard someone mention that photographers (and aspiring amateurs) should know their subjects. It makes sense. So whether it's a flower, a building, or color of the sky...I go and read more about it. It keeps me challenged!
Web... I have seen a couple double rainbows. I try to keep my camera in the car now!!! It always reminds me of my gpa... After I found out that he had passed a rainbow appeared. I know it happens, but it's just what I needed a little sign!!!
The rainbow connection The rainbow connection a good "feel good"song Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide. So we've been told and some choose to believe it. I know they're wrong wait and see. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me. Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morningstar? Someone thought of that and someone believed it. Look what it's done so far. What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me. All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic. Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors. The voice might be one and the same. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.

How sweet, thank you I have so much to learn and look forward to taking classes and getting training. Thanks Major, great song Dave! Diznee I have heard similar stories to yours relating to a lost loved one. And I agree, it's definitely best to keep your camera on you at all times!
